Default 222 rem range on predators

How far can I expect to be able to cleanly take out a coyote while using a 222 remington?

Have a friend that shoots one and has killed some in the 300-310 range.
I think about the same as 223.

I would not hesitate to take a shot at 400 yards.

would having a short barrel be a problem with the velocity. Whitch could cause more drop in elevation.

I found using a 50 grain Hornad SX bullet at 3100 fps, that at about 250 yards I wasnt getting as clean of a kill as I wanted. Multiple hits were sometimes in order

Hope this helps

Size does matter. But not much. You will lose some velocity with a shorter barrel, but it won't make much practical difference in a hunting scenario.

I have shot coyotes between 300 and 400 yards quite easily. I have shot a couple over 400 yards but shot placement becomes a lot more important.

Great round!

I have shot ranged coyotes put to 327 yards with my Anschutz, and woodchucks out to 350 yards with the same gun using C.I.L. 55 grain bullets and Speer 52 grain TNT's.

At the 300 yard ranges did the coyote drop or did it manage to run off?

Mine dropped where they were.
John Linville once shot a wolf at over 300 with his .17 Remington, a model 7 with a very short barrel.
It did not drop right away but did not go too far.
