Lakes north of Edmonton

Hey everyone. I have been primarily fly fishing streams for the last several years in SW Alberta. I just recently acquired use of a boat and was wondering what are some decent lakes north of Edmonton in the 1.5 hourish range. I'm pretty much C&R only and looking for some fun and good fights on my spinning gear and fly rod. Pike/Walleye im looking at I guess... I haven't been spin casting in years.


I was considering a couple I had fished years ago like Long Lake or Hanmore... but I dont recall Long Lake being that great, mostly really small now from what I hear.

Hanmore has been poor in my experience. For good pike and walleye fising wabamun and pigion are the the best lakes close to the city.

Fawcett lake, was great a month ago. 100+ fish a day.

Fawcett is still good take the two
and calling but its abit further and the fishing has been decreasing

Yes - you'll have to use the launch near the store at the west campground. $5 fee.

Whats the lake like for depth? Do you have to watch out for sand bars/ rocks etc?

camped at cross lake a few times this summer has pike and a good amount of nice sized perch. Its a pp though so it may cost you a day use fee.

Aside from the occasional floating log, there isn't much to worry about there. Careful on the western/northwestern shore of the lake as the depth can get to under 3 feet in a hurry.

devils lake(matchywaw)by onoway is fun for small pike, right on the northern weed bed they will bite and run all day.
