Default Registering House Appliances Warranties

Just had the controller for the furnace motor replaced. I registered the warranties on all of the house appliances and fixtures when we bought this house from the builder. Means the furnace is covered for 10 years instead of 3 if I had not actually registered online. The heat exchanger is actually warrantied for 99 years because the warranty was registered. That just saved me $1000.

Had to replace the fridge, got $4,000 back from Kitchenaide towards a new replacement because 9.5 years into the 12 year warranty they could not supply the parts to fix it. If the warranty was not registered warranty was 5 years. I know a lot of guys don't bother going onto the manufacturers' sites and registering but I can tell you from recent experience it is well worth the time and effort.

Just thought I would give you all a heads up as I am actually a little surprised at just how long the warranty coverage is on a whole lot of household gear.

Interesting. Thanks for the post, Dean. Will pay more attention to these things as I usually don’t. Though I don’t believe I ran into a trouble yet. Bought a new washer a few months ago and will try to look into the warranty details.

Thanks.

Formerly in retail and more often than not people do not register or even keep receipts for items. Then warranty issues pop up and no proof of

purchase at all and get denied then the mfg is always at fault for a bad warranty response.

When I managed the local Calgary fishing store I saw it all the time. Since we are fishermen and hunters here....A few of the fishing mfg especially for rods are very sticky on receipts, register etc. Keep them, take a photo and file it so you have it. Many will deny you the claim and they are within their rights to do so and not the store fault for not replacing the product. Always remember too it is a mfg warranty not the store warrant and the store needs this information to get credited back from the mfg if they do replace it for you. Otherwise the store takes the full it on the cost of the product you return.

Gringo, you are write about keeping receipts, owners manuals etc. I cannot tell you how many times those have been useful over the years. Every house we have owned has always had one single spot where all the manuals and purchase receipts for them were kept, and we gave the container to the next purchaser. It helped a lot of buyers over time. We also have an accordion file for owners manuals, guarantees and receipts for the other stuff we buy.

Amazing how many people don't realize that their credit card company often offers a doubling of the base warranty, however any warranty over 5 years usually has to be notified to the CC company. You also need the warranty info, receipt etc to process a claim. Visa covered a defective Canon printer that died at month 14, Canon warranty was only 12 months, got a full refund of the purchase price.
