new trap line machine
I know guys this has gone around a few times. But I have had enough with my existing machine. I'm thinking of going to a Skandic WT. Any thoughts or other options?
Thanks TEH

I have the 2015 skandic wt with the 900 ace. It is one if the best machines I have owned. Fuel milage is unbelievable. 200 km on half a tank in moderate deep snow. Cruising on the hard river snow it will get 22 mpg all day long. I put heavier springs in the front end from Revel suspension and it supports me better on the rough trails. I m pushing 300 lbs then plus all my gear. You won’t be disappointed with the skandic.

6tmile does that skandic throw you around in deep snow? My current machine is top heavy and want to tip over all the time and in deep snow its like herding cats. That is great fuel mileage, my trail are fairly smooth most years but this year being wet not as smooth.

The Skandic WT is very stable in deep snow and doesn't throw you around like the tundra 550's do. Good machines

So do I go with the 550, 600 or the 900 ACE? I'm thinking the 600 now but looking for some opinions.
Thanks TEH

550 is 2 stroke so if you want the fuel mileage that's not the best option, Between the 600 or 900 the 600 is still a bit better on fuel but the 900 has more power obviously. Don't think you can go wrong with either. I have the 600 and love it but my trapping partner has both the old 550 and the new 900 and I can tell you I'm very impressed with the 900 too. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you decide. But if it were me again I'd buy the 900 ace! Some guys go with the ETEC engines too and heard lots of good things about them but I have no experience with them, I think Bildson runs them don't you Brian?

I've ran 600 ACE for 4 years. Been a champ. I'm picking up a new Yamaha VK Pro next week. I'm pumped about the electronic power steering on the VK.

Yes I've got a WT with a 600 ETEC and I'm happy with it. Plus a bunch of the 550's that hold their own as well.

Well now I just need snow to give the new 900 wt a good trap line test. Got a good deal on a 2017 model.

I have 600 ACE and Skandic. It is unbelievable for fuel I hardly fill it up. It is also so quiet and I don't stink at the end of the day burning oil. It rides great through deep snow

There has not been much snow this year on my trap line but got out with a buddy in the grande Prairie last week. Well this machine was exactly what i was looking for. Broke trail down to the smokey river with no problem at all. With 2 people on the sled we explored areas that my buddy had never seen before as he does not have a machine that can take him into those areas.
First and second range work great but spent most of the time in 1st.
The beautiful part was after a day of riding it did not feel like going 3 rounds with Mike Tyson or what I imagine it would feel like going 3 rounds.
Quiet pulled up within 40 yards of 2 whitetail bucks that just stood there never ever had that happen on a 2 stroke, only ever seen flags.
This is the first good trip with the machine, I'm very impressed to say the least

Glad that you like your new sled, TEH!
My Renegade is still parked out front and has become a lawn ornament. Snow in the forecast on Thursday so hopefully I can exercise it on Friday.

Which sled did you end up picking 600-900?? I still like my 600 ace but may look at the 900. The Yamaha VK has my attention too though lol

I got a 2017 in the 900 ace. Don't know what the difference in fuel mileage will be from the 600 to the 900.

In sport mode it is a little bit harder on fuel but if your running econo mode its not really much harder on fuel than the 600, maybe a bit but not a major difference! When comparing wide tracks anyway, the super wides might be bit more again but I don't think it will be huge difference. They are good machines
