Default Skunk dog remedies anyone??

Round one was last night. Dog woke me up at 3 AM last night... Skunk was at our garbage bin.. Kids carelessly dumped a Tim's bag in there. I yelled and got all menacing with my flashlight .. Stripy waddled off none too concerned.

1/2 hour ago the wife drives into the driveway and phones me on the cell.. Skunks back, got her and the daughter trapped.. Man must save damsels.
I go out yell.. Shew skunk to the edge of the yard, then I line up the ole BB gun to ensure he's no longer fond of this place....

That's when my lab charges out to 'protect'...
She got sprayed pretty good.

Poor Sadie is relegated to the porch.. And I'm buying lots of tomato juice tomorrow.

Anyone else got any smell remedies.. Dogs looking pretty sad sack.

Default remedy

What we found worked well was using lots of baking soda and then give the dog a good bath with dog shampoo as you need to get the baking soda cleaned off the dog. it seemed to work for us.

as suggested above, just a little more detail for you...

1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide

¼ cup baking soda

1 teaspoon dish detergent (I prefer Dawn)

Wet your smelly boy down and rub the mixture into his coat. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. If you have any of this solution left, discard it immediately because it becomes combustible when stored in a closed container.

NOT fun, but this remedy will help immensely. been there done that LOL

When I used to run my GSPs I always kept a bottle of skunk off. It was expensive but one four oz bottle would eliminate total stink. I used to get it at 17 Avenue pet clinic in Calgary. The stuff was so good one could apply and massage in with hands, but I used rubber gloves.

THIS! I just went through this last week. It's awesome!
12 bucks for the shampoo and one application gets rid of it.

My hounds have each been sprayed once and this has worked famously!

Default Must be a record year

One of my farming friends down by the river has trapped 11 this year. We haven't seen skunks around the area for 20 years yet 2 were killled on highway in front of farm in the last month and we have trapped and shot 3 others.

Skunk spray is an oil based spray. The best thing to get rid of it is a mechanics hand cleaner, such as 'Fast Orange'. Tomatoe juice is best reserved for cabbage rolls, cooking or drinking, not for getting rid of skunk.

Any type of cleaner that will get rid of grease or oil will work well.
