Some things to think about before you do this, I had done similar things when I was a young buck.
- Is it a spot you plan to hunt frequently, as in perhaps the entire season?
- Stands like this often require pounding spikes into trees, which damages the tree.
- Over the long term wooden stands made from non treated lumber rot and fall apart.
- Is it on public or private land? On public land you are required to remove your stands after the season.
My advice is get a good climber or ladder/chain stand. Easy to move if you aren't happy with your spot, no damage to the tree.
