Default Fishing around Banff/Canmore/Kananaskis

Will be heading to canmore/banff area camping for the weekend and was hoping to get some fishing in. Anyone know of some good places to try. Won't be taking the boat so would have to be some shore fishing or river/creek. Will have the fly rod and spinning gear as a backup. Thanks in advance. On a side note will be travelling down highway 22 on the way down to canmore so if anyone has any suggestions on a pit stop for fishing along the way that would be good as well.

Thanks

Bigmac

Where abouts are you coming from? There are some decent holes on the BOW if you are going to pass through cochrane

I was just up in Kananaskis last week, the upper and lower kananaskis lakes were slow to fish. but some good action on the fly.from others around lots of big bull trout in the shallows. CAUTION WITH THE BEARS THERES TONS AROUND AND MANY TRAILS ARE CLOSED DUE TO THE BEARS.

I have been fishing in K country for the last month or so. If you want a drive up location, try the interlakes, or anywhere down the Kananaskis river. Just check the info on the damn release times, b/c the water rises quickly. I also fished the channel out of Spray and caught a Laker.
If you want to hike in, go up to Chester, Headwall, Picklejar, Elbow and Lillian Lakes. I had the best luck in Lillian and Headwall. The trout arent huge, but getting bites on every cast is a great way to spend the day.
Good Luck!

Default K Country

Barrier Lake has been fishing well, we landed 3 nice fish last Sat all around 13" lost another bigger beside the boat while trying to get the net unstuck from the bow of the boat. 2 weeks ago my 9 yr old son landed a 18" brown.

Default Back from canmore area

Well made it out on friday to rawson lake. The fishing was alright. Caught a bunch of smaller cutthroats and one nice 16". On saturday we hiked up to bourgeau (sp) for some brookies. It was non-stop catching the whole time we were there. It was awesome when the wind died down and you could spot fish. Cast anywhere near them and they were as good as caught. Nothing really big here, biggest being about 12-13 inches. All released to grow bigger for next time. Also stopped by the clearwater river near caroline on the way home and caught a couple of RMW's. All in all a good weekend of fishing.
