Default Hunting/Hiking Access in WMU 300

I want to do some hiking and bear hunting in the spring in WMU 300 just north of the Waterton park and west of Highway 6. Is there a way person can figure out if it is private or public land short of going there and looking?

All land north of Waterton west of Hwy 6 and outside of WMU 400 is private.I would suggest getting a landowners map from the M.D office in Pincher Creek. If you need any more help you could send me a p.m.

WMU 400 is crown land and is open access. If you like a peaceful hike and hunt then I would suggest the front range canyons that can be accessed of the southern portion of the Shell loop road. These are foot access only. They are some of the nicest hikes I have found for both scenery and game.

The loop road can be accessed from the Waterton Plant and the Spreadeagle road. There is a portion of the road that is gated during the winter but I believe it would be open by spring bear season.I find the Waterton plant access the best because it puts you about the center of the loop road.To access the loop road you just follow the Waterton plant road as it loops past the plant and continue on.You will then come to a intersection where you can turn north or south as you please.
