I just did some rainbows from last weekend on the Traeger for the first time last night. So much easier maintaining temps than the Bradley. Maybe I'll go get some whites this weekend.

Some of those hub shelters look to be in the exact same spot as when I was out there on Friday. I've been to three other lakes since then. lol.

Default Great Start on the Fishing!

The whites and rainbows look delicious.
We caught some whites last year and did a smoke. I was wondering if Super Mario and AlbertanGP would mind sharing the smoker recipes?
I like to leave the skin on the fish but scrape the scales off. Smoking i have done for about 2hrs at 200F. How does your cook time and temps compare?
We are making a go of a trip up North next Friday evening.

I can get you mine when I get home. If I forget, don't be afraid to PM me. I've recently switched to a dry brine. I also left the scales on last weekend as I was cleaning them outside in the dark in a snowstorm under my yard light. They actually weren't too messy when I brought them in the house.

I start at 165*F on the Traeger because that's as low as it will go. In the Bradley I'd probably start at 140*F, but the Traeger is so much better at maintaining temps during the winter. And use SuperSmoke on the Traeger if you have one and your model has it. I normally bump the temp 20*F every two hours until the thicker pieces reach 145*F...so on the Traeger 165*F for two hours, 185*F for two hours, etc. The key is to get an instant read thermometer to check temps. I ruined a lot of whites in my Bradley because it struggled to keep an even temp and I had no idea what was going on until I got a thermometer. It's helpful for beef jerky, sausages, and any other smoking you may be inclined to try.

Default Rainbows caught November 30th

No bites for the first 3 hours and then WHAM - 5 fish limit in less than an hour.

For some reason this picture keeps showing up sideways in the preview. I don't have time to figure it out right now, sorry.

I want to keep this post alive. Here is my first catch while ice fishing and my first fish this year. Ice fishing is like the poor man's boat fishing in regards to location

Also, I just learnt how to post photos. Imgur for the win

Default Ice Fishing

Anyone know of a good lake to ice fish within a few hours of Edmonton. Not sure if the ice is thick enough yet but just got a auger and my son wants to go real bad.

Hopefully someone helps you out. I'm nowhere near Edmonton, otherwise I'd give you a hand. Nothing like taking a little guy fishing, especially one that is eager to get out there.

Head to Wabamun with a jig and tub of minnows. You’ll catch walleye all day!
