Default 270 hand-loads

Hey guys don't know much about re-loading,but I picked up a beauty of an older Husqvarna 270 from a work buddy.
He included a bunch of hand-loads,problem is that when using this ammo the bolt is tough to close down.Store bought ammo works just fine.
Question is do you think its safe to fire them ? Not planning to use them in field just at the range.

I don't use any handloads that I didn't load myself, but it sounds like his sizing die wasn't adjusted properly. If he can't even adjust a sizing die properly, who knows what else he messed up.

Could be a number of things causing resistance closing the bolt with the hand loads. He may have been neck sizing and the shoulders need a bump. Web expansion. Primers sitting proud. The list goes on.

Myself, I still make some mistakes when loading that require correction. Chances are the same happens to others at times. I can address my own but I don’t have a clue where their error may have been should they have had one. I just pull bullets, dump powder and start fresh on my own. That’d be my recommendation to anyone but ultimately, it’s your call.

Spot on. Never shoot hand loads made by someone you don't know. Like Elk said, badly adjusted sizing die, what else did he get wrong. Either toss them or pull them apart and rebuild them yourself so you are darn sure you know they were put together right.

If the Range has a sealed can for disposal of loaded ammo I would deposit them there on your next Range trip. What you're describing sounds like incorrect sizing, not worth the risk IMO.

Default 243 & 270 ammo

So as talked about in this thread earlier, I have some highly questionable ammo loaded by someone other than myself, that I feed is UNSAFE to use. At least 200 rounds of 270 & 243 combined.
I live N.E of Edmonton and if someone who lives nearby and reloads wants them to disassemble and use whatever pieces they can,
PM me. But you must ensure me that you will take them apart and not fire them as is.
We will work something out

If you have a press and can use the components, I’ll lend you a bullet puller?
