7mm-08, 243, 25-06, 270, 270WSM.

My wife has a Tikka T3 LS 270WSM...she has taken deer, elk, moose.

Of the ones I listed, 243, 25-06 and 7mm-08 would be a good start. You can usually find this made with shorter stocks by a few rifle companies.

Ruger No 1 in 7x57...simple to operate, mild recoil...Anything 7-08. My wife started hunting and shooting with a Rem VTR in 308, nice rifle for women...has a built in muzzle brake, fairly compact, not to heavy and recoil is very manageable. After my wife got hers 2 other women we know...who had shot hers, went out and bought their own VTR's so that tells me something for what its worth, and all 3 love it.

Good Luck,
Jim

Make sure she finds one that fits her and she is comfortable handling it.
Lots of mid range calibers out there to look at.
7-08,.257,25-06,308,6.5x55 ect

I'm saving up for a T/C Venture in 270win for the missus, sweet gun, MOA guarantee out of the box (and from what I've read, it holds up). It's not pretty but it is very nice to shoulder and point.

Like Dick said, I would lean towards the .243 with the "swiffer damp mop attatchment''. Make sure its the one with telescopic handle. JK JK

What dick said! My wife is a taller lady, but the standard rifle lineup still didn't work with her body geometry. She ultimately chose a browning micro hunter in 7-08. The short list included the Remington 7 and the savage lady hunter, her final choice was based on the detachable mag and the aesthetics of the rifle.

It's fun taking them rifle shopping, because you get to buy a gun without fear of reprecussions.

The one thing I learned from taking my wife shopping is budget. This is something she may or may not enjoy so spending a bucket of cash might not be a good idea (unless you wanna paint that pink stock later for your own use).

A mid-range savage (Trophy Hunter or the like) that has the Accu trigger etc is something that can be adjusted for her fairly easily, and every savage I have ever owned has been a true and accurate shooter so she not get discouraged.

Any of the above-mentioned calibers will work and once she gets addicted then you can both happily spend the rest of your lives together shopping for the rifle she(you) really wanted.

Get a rifle that fits her, and realize that the lighter the rifle is, the more the recoil. For target, and hunting combined, I would look at the 260rem, and the 7mm-08.

X2 if she is a smaller framed woman there are some better fitting rifles with shorter lengths of pull as swifty mentioned the Micro hunter and model 7 rem are good places to start .....7mm-08 is a hard caliber to beat performance vs recoil wise

7mm-08. They are a pleasure to shoot. Even my neighbors small 12 year old son shoots it with no issues and he compares it to a 243 in recoil.

Women do not fit well to anything IMO they have long necks and boobs they benefit from adjustable recoil pads.

Women typically, have much smaller hands than the average man, all the shortened stocks, chopped barrels and lightened weights. Yet not one manufacturer takes this ergonomic issue into account, by making the grip to trigger dimension shorter.

Sure I'll trade. What kind of rifle do you want for her?

Got my missus a Pro Hunter in 7-08, it fits her pretty good...

She played with a savage lady hunter and I think she really liked it as well

A tikka T3 lite is actually surprisingly popular for women folks around here I'm finding out.

Try on savage and remmington youth models as well as any other you can find, keep the optics in the 40mm objective size and pick a comfy ring height for the combo and she will love it... Don't cheap out on the glass quality tho

For cartridge size... Can't really go wrong with 7-08 or .308, .270 is pretty common as well in youth models.

7mm-08. .243 is too small of a diameter I find. .270 is a nice caliber if she doesn't mind how loud it is and a little recoil.

Bought my wife a 308 to start with now she has a 280ai loves it too, I have lots of respect for a 25-06 for everything, just get a rifle that fits thats the biggest concern. My wife hunts with and loves her new Cooper Jackson Game in 280ai and shoots it great, she is 5.4 and a 120lbs and it fits just fine. Big thing is she likes it not you! Don't make the mistake of getting her a rifle that you like and she is "fine" with, she won't want to take it out, and it will be a waist, you get a new gun and a unhappy wife, and we all know what that means.

If your wife is tiny I would get her a browning micro midas in a 243. If she is average in size I would get her a tikka t3 lite in a 7-08.

That's cause the man who is paying for it knows it will just become his gun once she gets over the whole shooting idea in about a month and figures he better buy something that's can be multi use. Sorry I know there are some amazingly awesome woman shooters and hunters but when things come down to dollars it isn't that economic to come out with an amazing line of woman's rifle. However I'm in that boat right now and it's not easy I'm thinking definitely 7-08. Goin to the gun show
