Default Deer sterilization/birth control

Wonder what the general opinion is on this initiative?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...trol-1.4549274

Seems like a big old waste of time and somewhat inhumane....

The cost per Alberta horse was 1500. Not sure how that worked out

Default Here is a better idea

Oak Bay should import a pack of wolves, a few grizzlies, and maybe a couple cougars for good measure...deer problem solved.

Hmm in Helena MT they just go around at night and shoot them. Works fine for them and they have a fair number of urban deer....

They did this for a time in Southern Ontario (maybe still do). It is really stupid.
The costs are high, and the effects are always negative. Deer population ages but there are few younger replacements, so the population pyramid gets skewed.
It makes far more sense to let hunters pay for the opportunity to take targeted animals (older males, surplus females etc).

Why wouldn't they allow for a primitive weapon shoot.Give the meat to homeless ,if need be.I am getting real tired of,paying higher insurance premiums.Because of wlidlife hits, damage etc.Hire some pest control people,do it in the dark etc.

Another argument for suppressors.

It must not have had a very good outcome. I haven't heard anymore about it and that story is a year old already.

Thumbs down

Not everyone who lives on the Island are so lost in their train of thinking.
And a great many of us consider Oak Bay - well pretty much all of Victoria - filled with out-to-lunch Leaf Lickers.
I would be one of those rural Rednecks that house such an opinion.

Complete waste of time & money.
Especially when much less expensive options have been presented to them.
Personally I suspect this gong show will be a dismal failure...

Cheers,
Nog

Don't you mean bicycle riding Leaf Smokers! Now they want to supply cocaine to curb the criminal element. WTF is next??

A few years back lady in BC asked why can you not sterilze the wolves, older gentleman replied "Lady they are not screwing the moose and elk they are eating them"
