Might not be pretty tonight. The Jets are starting Hellebuyck, Little, Wheeler, Ehlers, Laine, Byfuglien, Scheifele, Myers, Connor, and Perreault while the Flames have no NHL regulars in the lineup.

That definitely doesn't look good. That's okay, pre-season, let the young guys step up and see what they have to look forward too.

We don't need to be like the sissies up north and send in the big guns to fight the wiener leaguers.

I agree. We already know what Monahan, Neal, etc. can do. Lets get a better look at Phillips, Dube, etc.

A much better result than I expected. Still need to work on discipline. Up by one, and they take two minor penalties with 4 minutes left, not a great game plan.

Can anyone explain to me why Curtis Lazar is still on this team?

Lazar is a sad story. Drafted early (Sens took him 17th first round 2013), brought up too soon seems like, ruined his confidence. Perennial under performer for sure. I don't see him staying on unless something clicks for him early this year. Agree with you, he isn't much of an asset.

1) No other team wants him. I would think that the Flames would want to trade him to make room for younger players. Just a guess on my part.

2) One way contract.

If they can't move him, I would rather see a guy like Lazar kept on as an extra forward as opposed to having a younger prospect fill that role.
If a good prospect can't crack the top 4 lines, I'd much rather see them sent to the minors to gain experience, rather than eat popcorn in the press box.

RFA at the end of this year.

Sweet, PP, ES, and SH goals by the Flames. Also, Czarnik posted a hatrick. Think he and Dube have pretty decent shots at making the team.

Looking good tonight. I could handle them making the team for sure. Putting some pressure on guys like Lazar and Bennet. Who had better improve or their gone in my opinion. Go Flames!!!

I agree, without watching a game and just looking at stats, I like the looks of:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Neal
Bennet-Dube-Frolik
?-Ryan-Czarnik

I'm not sold on Bennet, and would like to see Foo, Jankowski, and Phillips get a shot, just don't know if they can play multiple positions. As stated earlier by Big Sky, I don't want those guys sitting in the press box though. Think that's a roll better filled by a Hathaway or Peluso type player.

Nice to see for sure. I would slot Jankowski into that last slot, big fast and great hands, he has some pretty goals already. Now the perennial question will be goal tending again. Smith is still a question mark for me since his injury. Rittich for back up looks...ok. I'd dearly love to see a more solid pair, but have no ideas...

I have faith in Smith. If he works as hard as everyone says he does, we should be good. My guess is San Jose, Vegas, and Calgary will be top 3 in the Pacific.

I have faith in Smith as well, unless Peter's tried to play him for 75 games. I'd like to see Rittich in the crease every time we're playing Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal, Carolina, etc. If we can't beat those team with Rittich, we aren't going that far come spring anyways.

I also heard Smith is a hard worker, and I hope you are right about him. But I'd sure like to see a young Price or Fleury or...somebody. Just feel like the goal tending has been the week link for the last several years. The rest of them team is looking great all the way around to me, with Lazar the exception. I like Bennet, sometimes his point production is spotty, but he brings a toughness in his game that is needed.

Smith is a good goalie. And Trochu is right, we can run him into the ground and over play him. Hes not a young buck anymore.

Goal-tending is for sure out Achilles, I feel you need a solid 70 game starter with decent back up to spell him off on occasion. I don't think we have that. I like Smith and feel good with him between the pipes, just not sure he will go the distance we need.
Go Flames.

Go Flames.
By going the distance, you are referring to a playoff spot I take it? Or is there a parade coming this June? Lol

Goalies are not inspiring a lot of confidence right now. 5 goals to the sharks last night. And not even the good Sharks. These are the lower case "s" sharks. Can't win many games by letting in 5 goals.
