Should I buy a .22 wmr?

Hi everyone, so just like the title, I really want a 22 WMR but don't know if there is much of a point. I own .22 lr in Marlin 995 and a Rossi model 62, then I got 2 .243's a 7600 which I use a lot (open sights) and a 700.

The point of this gun would be for stuff farther away and for bigger stuff then just gophers, I will still plink with it and hopefully take some odd critters with it, badger or fox maybe try I coyote if I don't have my 7600.

I was thinking of a lever .22 wmr, and I'd leave it open sights but just can't think if I should or not. Let's here some opinions, don't know if it's worth it, I have that spectrum covered good I believe... Maybe not good enough... Or it's buy a new gun itch... Haha

A good henery lever .22 mag would be a fun gun.

22 WMR are great for beaver, I have a 17 hmr for gophers, but it doesn't flatten beavers as good as the 22wmr. Anytime is a good time to buy a new rifle and you probably deserve it. Go buy a CZ in 22 WMR and have fun.

I regret selling my .22WMR, and have plans on getting another. Pretty sure it will be a CZ, but I fondled a Ruger American recently and it's pretty hard to not like what you get for the money. I poked around RimfireCentral for reviews and they all seem very positive. I like the synthetic stock, and flush mag too.

It took me 3 HMRs to finally accept that it isn't a good groundhog caliber here in Ontario. (they can get up to 18+ lbs.) First one I walloped with the 22WMR went down hard, and I was sold.

My vote~get one!

I love my 17hmr for gophers, but I agree with others that it is lacking in power for beavers. I was expecting great results, and it didn't perform much better than a 22lr, other than the ability to take longer shots. But again, for gophers at longer ranges, I looove the 17hmr and wouldn't be without it.

I got a Henry Golden Boy 22WMR. Love it! Can't find ammo for it and they are expensive for plinkin. I'm planning to use it for hunting rabbits.

Awesome opinions guys, help make it more clear. I expect it to be a great round for my arsenal. Guess a trip to cabelas or wholesale is in need. Whichever is cheaper that is.

Does anyone know if leduc can. tire has any in stock and price? They always seem to be cheaper prices then cabelas or wholesale?

I have a 22 mag in a Marlin. A very accurate and reliable gun. My son loves it and consistently thins out the gopher population with it.

Got a Marlin too, definitely one of the best rifles I have.

I've read bad reviews about those ones. I believe it was with the barrel selector in the hammer.

The stock on the 42 is garbage, if you want an over and under .22 mag / 410 look at the savage model 24 they are older and have wooden stock.

I own a marlin 22wmr. Very under rated in my experience. The trigger could stand to be lighter but it breaks cleanly. Mine out shoots all 3 HMRs I've owned and used.

If you have a .22lr and a .243, I don't know that a .22WMR will give you as much versatility as dropping a .22-250 or .223 into that line-up. And I own a .22WMR.

good choice to buy the caliber, now buy the best quality you think you can afford then spend a little more. A caliber you won't ever part with so buy quality. IMO

I would recommend looking into a .22 Hornet. I can reload and shoot it for about the same cost as the 22WMR and get superior ballistics and a jacketed bullet. It's quiet enough to not need muffs too. Gophers tumble in the air at 100yds.

22hornet ,save your self a pile of trouble,22mags are great and are good all round gun,but the 22 hornet is one hec of a nice caliber,you can do lots with this cal at a decent price for ammo,either way everyone should have a 22mag or a hornet,good luck.

Get a 22 Mag. No question. Do it and never look back. I love mine. When the gophers are thick it is a wonderful round. That being said, get a 22 Hornet as well. Hilarity ensues when using the Hornet on gophers and I really don't think there is a finer round out there for beaver control. I have 2 Hornets and love them both. Also can be purposed as a nice round for calling coyotes. I've killed several out to 150 yards with several doubles. I like to think the reduction in rifle report helps. Short and long of the story is buy more guns!

Agree with the 22 hornet over the mag. And what if - just what if - browning chambered their blr in it. Put me down for two of them.

When the ammo shortage was in full swing several years ago I couldn't find any annoying for my 22lr or .223 but there was always plenty of 22mag on the shelves. It was definately more expensive than 22lr at 13$/50 rounds but the availability really made me ponder selling my 10/22 and picking up a 22mag. I ended up selling the 10/22 and using he money to buy an ar but if the right deal came around I wouldn't hesitate on picking up a 22mag in a Henry or marlin. I don't think you'll really gain anything capability wise since it sounds like your pretty covered both up and down the cartridge scale, but some of my most memorable guns were those that fell I between the capabilities I already had. If you want it buy it!!
