Default Moose Mountain Hike/Bike: A Family Tree Adventure

Since I retired the climbing gear and changed careers several years ago, I’ve gotten away from sharing our outdoor adventures with AO.

As some of you longtime members will notice, ‘The Shrubs’ have grown.

Before I had children, climbing mountains was a usual thing. When I became a father, I stopped. Kinda figured if I’d get hurt or killed, it better be on the job rather than playing around on personal time.

Once the boy turned 10, out of curiosity, we took a crack at Yamnaska. From there it was on.

Two weekends ago we tackled Moose Mountain. It’s near Bragg Creek. Approximately 15 km return with a 500 meter elevation gain. We took our mountain bikes and definitely shortened the trip. The trail from the parking lot quickly drops steeply down about 120 meters which is fine leaving, but a brutal way to finish.

Anyway I highly recommend this hike. Great contrast of peaks to the west and prairie to the east, with downtown Calgary clearly visible.

Already planning the next one. Enjoy the video! I filmed it with a GoPro Hero 3 Black handheld and handlebar mounted. It provides a good synopsis of the hike for anyone considering it. Enjoy!

Great to see you guys up in the high country!!!!

Now grab the tent and head down south! You need a pic of that crew up in the Range!

Thanks R!

South range stuff is definitely in the longer range plans. Thinking next summer, but we shall see. It would be a great way to celebrate the mighty Oil bring the cup home once again.

Great video. Best part is that when you're legs are cramped up and you're too tired to drive home, your son can drive you!

Pretty bold statement for a dude prone to yeast infections.

Fantastic, TreeGuy! Just goes to show that you don't need to sink thousands into camera equipment to capture some great family memories. Keep the adventures coming!
