I would use the 38-55 as you have one. You will be the only one that you know that used that cartridge. It's from 1876. You didnt mention an .303, that would of been a close second. Put some history back into hunting. That's what I do. Except sheep, they get the .270

Likewise. It'll be a cold day in hell before I ask anyone else or the masses on a forum as to what rifle or caliber I should use for a hunt.

I'm gonna have to waste a few sleepless nights on that one.

I spent my P8 and drew a Moose tag this year. First time I've ever hunted Moose. We are doing a floating river hunt, I originally was thinking my Ruger No. 1 on .300 H&H (200 grain AB) but given it is a water hunt I may bring my stainless synthetic sheep rifle in 7mm08 ( and work up a 160 grain AB load).

If we can't discuss rifles and their applications; well, what's the point of this forum?

Not much of a dilemma here. You just have a choice to make. Now it would be a real dilemma if after your choice, you would have to stick to that choice forever and ever.

Yikes people I was more ore less sharing my excitement of drawing a moose tag and my dilemma of which fine firearm I could choose from.
I appreciate you concerns why
I had not responded immediately but I do have other interests in my life and was away in the mountains .
As to building a rifle I suppose it could be done but what better choices that what I have ? Now won't that open a can of worms

Ahhh real easy, carry one each day and just rotate until you go bang and fill the freezer, that's what I would do!

Sometimes the "M" is silent but sometimes you get a legit answer to your question...
