Default Bow river guided trip

Just about every morning when I drive by the local Tim Hortons theres guys in the parking lot with drift boats in tow. I assume meeting their fishing buddies or clients. And it’s got me thinking maybe I’ll give it a go - hire a guide and go for a fly fishing trip on the Bow River. My birthday is coming up. - the boss even said go ahead- so it’s all up to me now.

Would this time of year still be worth it? (Mid sept) if I can get a spot that is.

Anybody recommend a guide? Or should I just reach out to one of the local shops… Ironbow or Fish Tales?

I guess ideally I would be wanting to catch some fish, learn some of the setups and and maybe a few pointers for the Bow River.

Things can be a little tough this time of year with warm water and low flows. It will get better as the water cools and a little rain brings on the little mayflies.
The best time of the year is in July if you want to catch lots of fish

Usually the best time is July or August. Contact Ironbow, I would recommend Paul for a guide. I've done four trips with him and have had a blast. You can see that he loves what he does and is willing to share his knowledge to help you improve on the water. He does book up quick!

Dee Chatani with Trout Chasers is one of the most experienced guides on the Bow.

this is a great time to fish, the water is low and clear and the fish are held up in the deeper water, streamer fishing can be banging with the browns feeding hard to prepare for the spawn.

Dee and his son are excellent as are the guides out of Fish Tales

There are a bunch of great guides that guide the Bow... That being said there are a bunch of "fly by nighters", as well.

Be sure to ask questions and match up your wants with what a guide can offer you... Some guides will put on a double worm rig and you will dredge the bottom to get you into fish. Others will teach you if that's what you want. Be sure to tell them what you are looking for... What experience do they have? How long have they been guiding? Do they have reviews? Are they an independent or do they work for a shop? Are they insured and have they proper permits (if applicable).

I guide the Bow, but only walk and wades.

I think if you went out now you'd have a great and productive time.

I suspect you'd be using San Juan worms or, even lazier, just red hooks, and you'd stay busy catching.

+1 for Fish Tales - my wife and I had a great day with them last year.
