Default First fish on a new rod

Picked up an Orvis Clearwater in 5/6 Wt and a couple weeks back took the boy to try a new spot. Found a nice pool under a bridge and noticed some rises right of the hop.

Tied on a hopper (or maybe a stonefly? I’m not sure, I’m new at this lol) and this guy got tricked first cast. I let my boy hold the fish for the picture, as he was pretty darn excited!

I’ve only ever caught on my 7/8 Wt so was fun to feel the rod really bend and play the fish a bit

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!
He was sad that he didn't catch the fish, but he's showing interest in trying to cast my fly rod.
We had tried Twin Lakes (Beside Crimson) that morning, and he loved watching the perch swim below the dock. He'll be a fisherman through and through.

Oh, and he can cast just as far as I can with an open-face reel... Not bad for a six year old!
