I guess if the rod guides are too far apart and the rod bends to a point that the line has the potential to touch the rod....or if the rod it not adequate for the game fish targeted then the rod bends to a point the line rubs the rod.

Or perhaps the design of the guides is such that they do not stand hi enough from the blank?

Catfish and Carp has a video of line touching his fingers and cutting through his foam handle on his rod when he lifted his baby kid with 100 pound test .

The rod was a Daiwa Beefstick. Rod didnt break but line was cutting through.

I don’t think about that, not that I ever did, when I use my heavier spinning rods for big fish. I have the butts of the rods measured long enough to comfortably ride down under my forearm for leverage and my left hand reeling never goes forward of the reel.
