Default I hate the 243 winchester!!

Anybody else hate this little crappy little cartridge that pressures up without warning, locks up bolt guns, splits cases on older rifles , and if one is really unlucky, craps out ammo like a shotgun pattern at 100 yards?

And to ,make things worse, my favorite wildcat rig has developed problems in the brass department, and I may be forced to use one of those consarned
243's at spruce grove in July!!

Even if I do well with it, I'll still hate that POS cartridge!
This coming from someone who doesn't think twice about buying reamers, messing with unforseen parameters, turning necks, and building dies , all just to hotrod a case!
Gawd I'm sick!

I would smoke up the computer if i did that!!
Went to the range tonight, brought the POS 243 and my 6.5WSSM.
Forgot the bullets for thee 243, just as well, I'd have to shoot it then!
Loaded up some brass at the range for the WSSM, using weight sorted brass,
MUCH better.
The brass has a gigantic weight difference in a bag of 50.
With the Sorted brass I managed a ten shot group off the bench of a little less than 1MOA at 200 meters.
It'll do......

I dont know Cat..I've had two and neither has any of the problems you describe. The current Rem 700 Hv BBl will to a nickel at 100y with 75 gr'ers.
And thats only after a playing with five loads and a bit of COL. Ive had no time to strech it out any further than that..might go to HE double hockey sticks at 200.....you never know. Hope to get time this year to find out.
The 6mm has proven itself to do better than that....with the two piece stock...gotta be the octagon bbl i'm sure

I have a "plain jane" Rem. 788 in .243. I LOVE to shoot it. Makes nice tight clover leaf groups. But I don't like it much as a big game rifle. It will kill deer and pronghorn but I like something that makes a hole right through which provides the kind of blood trail a blind man can follow.

The best way to load for a 243 Win is to first push a 6mm Rem. reamer into the chamber!
Talked to your barrel guy the other day in B.C. , definetly gonna be an octagon thingy on there next year! ( maybe in a short Better Bob)
