Default Range report - 270WSM

So I finally found a decent load for my 270WSM with 140gr TSX's. Thought I'd fool around with seating depths. For my rifle the lands are at 2.93", I worked up my original load at 2.85" (max in the book is 2.86"). I made up 3 three shot loads with different seating depths, here's the results:

Now my shooting isn't the best, I'm usually happy if I can shoot at under an inch at 100 yards, so I was pretty happy with the last group!

I've had guys tell me to seat the TSX's a little farther of the lands, has anyone seen that in practice?

That bottom group is pretty good, what are you shooting for a rifle?

Well it looks like your on to something.
The trick is getting those size groups every time you go out.
Keep cranking on her.

Default 270WSM loads

Looks good. I havent reloaded any 140gr TSX bullets for my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM - I have a box but never tried them yet. I have had great success with the Accubonds in both my 300WM and 270WSM so I stuck with them. I may have to load up some TSX. I tried some 200gr TSX in my 300WM and got great groups using RL 22 powder.

I use Retumbo for my Accubonds and was going to try it for the TSX. I may have to buy some IMR 7828

You're just rubbin' it in now Rocks? After trying RL25, Retumbo, and many different loads and COL's; I still haven't been able to shoot a group I like from my300RUM with the 168 TSX's. I'll get a load figured out before we go out next time Rocks.

WCT - shootin a Tikka T3 Lite.

Shredder - I thought you'd enjoy that pic! I'm sure you'll have a load figured by next time we go out...

I've seen some good loads in literature with RL22 but haven't tried any yet. For now I'm going to stick with the 7828 in the configuration I have now and see if I can shoot some consistent groups.

Barnes reccomends starting at .050 off the lands and working towards the lands with their bullets.

This is because they are solid copper and do not enter the lands the same as a cup and core bullet.
The Barnes bullets I have tested shot tighter with less pressure seated much shorter than any of the cup and core bullets that I load.

Wow...I finally got a 1" group out of the 168 TSX. My COL with the Accubonds was at 3.56"; I hit 1" at 3.52" with the TSX. I'm gonna try 3.51", and 3.5" to see if I can tighten it up a little more yet. Call me when you get back Rocks and we'll go make some more noise.
