You best 7MM Mag Combination
I am looking at getting some more reloading supplies for my 7MM Mag and was wondering what some of your best reloading combination for bullet and powder. The rifle is mainly used for hunting with a little target practice so when the day comes to shoot game I have some skills.
Are match primers worth it, will they improve the shots, or just give you more consistant results. Does the quaility of the brass make a difference?
I understand that every rifle has a different taste to what makes it shoot best.

Im just getting into loading for my 7mm RUM but for me, the highest BC bullets were the 160 grain. I'm going to try out some Retumbo powder and the accubonds. My suggestion would be to build some loads around components that are easily available. Match grade primers definately arent.
I'm just going to go with the standard CCI magnums.

160 gr Accubonds, 0.5 grs under book max (Nosler) of RL-19 and CCI250 mag primer.....deadly accurate in my Tikka. This is a case where a mag primer is generally called for - pretty big case capacity, slower powders. Use what the book calls for. The 7mm RM can be a bit pressure "glitchy" and so don't be changing components from the recipes as printed up by the bullet and/or powder manufacturers' specs. The results are totally unpredictable, even from something as simple as a different primer.

Alliant RL 22, 175 gr. Hornady interlocks, Fed. 215 primers, and a bag of 50 Remington brass. Work up to a good load, and you'll be happy. Another good load I use is Alliant RL 25, 162gr. Hornady SST, Fed 215 primers, Remington brass. You'll find the sweet spot for each load near book max. or a bit past it.
Match primers are worth it, but hard to find. Match primers are the same as the same classification of normal primers, but with stricter QC. The Fed. 215 primer is the hottest primer out there, and the best Mag primer, IMO.
Work up a load with either of these combinations for your rifle, and you'll find something good. PM me if you're looking for more info. Set OAL to as long as your rifle can take it, either set by mag. length, or chamber length. Good luck, Eric

Sendero 7RUM
I'm using the Berger 168 VLDs( Moly) over 92+ grains of Retumbo and CCI LR Mag primers...this combo shoots (3) into 3/4"-1" @ 300yds in my Sendero 7 RUM.

I have tried Hornady and Barnes TSX and and H4381SC and IMR 4350 with all the same results, I was working up in the loads all the results where the same.I bought some factory ammo and the results where the same. I have tried over 100 rounds of different combiations to find something that shot decently and not success. I think that I have a bigger problems then find the right combination.
Loss Cross Hairs??
I have started another post so if you have any ideas let me know.
Thanks

7rm
I use 140gr. nosler accubonds over RL22 - gives me 3250fps in a 24" barrel and .5" groups in an M700. I have had similar results with the 160gr accubond as well over RL22, though not chrony'd. I use CCI magnum primers - and my brass was all once fired remington. I dont use match primers. Consistency is the key to successful reloading.

All depends what you are hunting for and if you are in the open plains or mountains.
My 7 mag is my spare backup gun for moose hunting .
I use the Hornty 175 round nose ,shoots good groups at 200 yards
Great bullets..Does not go threw the animal but stays in it !

160 Accubonds and Rel 22 is what I shot in my Sako 7 Mag...get them up to 3000fps and they'll do everything you want to do with a hunting rifle.

Been using this load for years:
Speer 145gr Grand Slam
58gr 4350
CCI mag primer
Win brass
It has dispatched deer, elk and moose with good results.

in my tika 160gr nosler, 60gr of h4831 and standard cci primmers with fired casings works great and temp. plays no part with this powder, I have herd that rl 22 is pretty fussy about temp.

Powders with good reputations are often. IMR4350, IMR4831, IMR7828, H4350, H4831, H1000, Retumbo, RL19, RL22, RL25
Bullets with good reputations often have names like Horandy, Speer, Nosler, Barnes, Sierra, Swift, Trophy Bonded.
Now which one of these combinations will suit your needs, and more importantly which combination will shoot best in your rifle, is going to have to be figured out by yourself.
Because every rifle is unique unto itself, and the only way to know for sure is spend some $$ and time and find out.
This may take one trip or 50, it all depends....................

7 mag loads
I have tried all sorts of loads in my Mod 70, the best accuracy I have gotten is from a 160 gr Sierra Boat Tail with 62 gr of IMR 4350, it prints very small cloverleafs time after time with this load. Like Dick metnioned there are lots of good well known components it's just a matter of finding what works for you.
