I wasn't even sure why I bought one...just heard they were a fun "toy" to have in the gun cabinet. Well I have taken the wives daughters out a couple times and a couple times with their friends. I have yet to meet a kid who doesn't LOVE to shoot the thing.

You know they may not be the most accurate rifle in the world..but they sure are a lot of fun.

I got one in a trade this spring, it truely is a blast to shoot. Accuracy is poor at best, but its fun to blast out lots of rounds with.

They're not a bad gun for close in target practice, but do need to be cleaned out properly - especially if one is using some of the corrosive ammo available like the Czech stuff.

I've got one of the original Russian version, a battlefield pick up from somewhere, no doubt. It's amazing to see the difference in the quality of manufacture, compared to the under $ 200. versions they are flogging nowadays. I've also seen chinese versions, where the receiver is stamped metal and the edges so sharp, you could cut yourself. Still, lots of fun to shoot.

That's why majority of SKSs have chrome-lined bores. Good gun, might take it deer hunting this fall (any gun is good if you know it's limits and adhere to them). 858 is smoother and more "girl-friendly" thu (I own both)

I have been wanting one to plink away with too. Where can a guy get one at?
And how much are they now?

Fair enough, but still with the chrome lined bores, you still have to dissassemble the gas action mechanism to give it a thorough cleaning out. I've seen Russian SKSs that weren't properly cleaned out and and the actions were gritty until cleaned. Likely why each SKS comes with a cleaning kit.

They seem to be everywhere. For a plain one (norc) you'll pay around 150-180 depending.

SIR has them. I heard that importation has been discontinued, but there still seem to be lots around.
