Default Loving the 375RUM

I recently got a lightly used Remington 700 in 375RUM
I was not particularly looking for one but this one was cheep. $650 with brass and dies. Well how would a guy say no to a deal like that.
Settled on 250TTSX. Why? Well definitely wanted a tough bullet, and I don’t plan on going to Africa in the near future so the need for a 300gr is just not there.

Tried IMR7828 good groups but disappointed in the fps. Only 2770 with a max charge.
Found the factory trigger to be garbage so I tried a Triggertech
Wow! Very nice. Better than a Jewel or Timney? I would put it right on par.
Tried some IMR4831 and wow 3175fps and right around 1 inch groups
Put a Leupold VX2 3-9x40 cds on it.
I think the next upgrade will be a better stock. Factory rem plastic is a bit light and flexable.
You certainly know you pulled the trigger on this big gal. Makes my 358 norma fell like a 308. But she puts a grin on my face.

Off hand I don’t find it as bad as my 450 3 1/4 nitro
But it certainly is not a bench gun
I am not going to put a brake on it as i hate them. And it is mostly going to be a hunting gun for in the saddle scabbard.

My big cartridge days ended with my long term neck and shoulder damage , what really puzzles me off is that the damage isn't from shooting but from my trade and a few wrecks !
Used to love shooting the big guns and have had to resist buying more than s few in the last 15 years.
Sure like 'em though!

I have a .375 RUM with the laminate stock. It packs a wallop on the backend and not for the bench. In my opinion it is easier on the shoulder than my Ruger M77 in .338 wm.
The RUM did the job for me on black bear, moose and 1 white tail.
I unfortunately also have problems with both shoulders and neck so the rifle hasn't been used for 10+ yrs.

PS Probably a bit of overkill for game around here.

I have always liked big boomers too. Being left handed I got the 375 Ruger. Am now on my third one and right out of the box they all shoot under and inch for 3 shots at 100 yards with Barnes 270 TSX and Hybrid100v or 4831 for the powder. The best shooting one was an African with the 24" barrel and it would do 1/2" pretty consistently. You only get about 2800 FPS, whereas the 375 RUM looks like it will do 2920 with the 270 grainers. Both will easily shoot to 500 yards and still be pretty flat trajectory wise, so they make a real competent big game rifle even at longer ranges.

Had a couple of the H&H as well over the years and they were amazingly accurate too. I had the 378 Bee for a while but found it had more bark and blast than seemed worthwhile for the extra 300 FPS. I would take the Ruger, H&H or RUM over the Bee any time.

Jeez for $650 I'm glad you found it before me.
I'd would have scooped up another gun that I don't need.
Try it out this bear season.

According to Quickload ,right around 100 grains with a 260 grain Partition, depending on the particular powder.

At a 100gr of 4831 I had a sticky bolt lift, and only gained another 30fps so I backed it off to 98.5

Impressive, Nice thing about the 375 cal is the selection of bullets available, something that the .358 lacks.

Having the a Ruger #1 in ouch & ouch, I have been thinking of obtaining some of those 260 Accubonds for their good BC and bonded construction.
I still have a number of the old Barnes 270 Original X and have to say they have just punched a straight hole thru the critters they've seen. I have used the X in other calibers also but have not used the ttsx. Just kinda of left the Barnes camp. No doubt on a big Brownie or something on the African plains they would be fantastic but for NA eatables i find the newer bonded bullets seen to work better for me. Just my 2 cents gents.
