Default Tikka or Sako?

I’m going to treat myself to a new rifle/scope combination for the 2019 hunting season. I’ve already purchased my new scope, and have narrowed down my my choice of rifle to either the TX3 laminated ss 7mm rem mag or the Sako Roughtech Pro ss 7mm rem mag. I’ve held both rifles and both were very nice but the Sako just felt a bit more balanced. I also liked the stock as well as the fluted barrel on the Sako, although the fluted barrel is not necessary I guess. I’ll start watching for sales on these two guns. I’m thinking I can’t go wrong with either rifle. Good reviews too.

Don't give up on leftover new Tikka T3s @ Bashaw Sports. They have a current blowout sale and may still have some in 7RM

Do a search of this forum. This very topic was discussed to death in another thread not long ago.

I have both, and if I had to choose, I would go with the sako,It just seems to feel and handle better.

Default Good choice

You really can't go wrong with either rifles. I have hunted with both and find my preference goes to the Sako only by a margin.
Both should produce about the same accuracy seeing they both are identical barrels minus the flutting.
I found the actions to be similar but the Sako stronger having 3 locking lugs compared to the Tikka's two.
The real difference is the open action on the Sako. Just far easier to top feed the Sako rifle. I also over think the situation that may occur when hunting. Having a rifle that feeds rounds quickly from the top for back situations just makes sense to me. The new t3x does allow for top feed just no where near as easy.
The magazines are very similar with the Tikka's being all polymer construction and Sako's polymer with stainless feeding lips.
All in all it really comes down to your budget. Tikka's are nice but the Sako is nicer.
My 2 cents worth.

Another vote for the Sako. I have both and find that the Sako has a well balanced stock, shoulders and finds target quickly.
Both are chambered in 7mmRM.

I too am for the Sako. I have the one you are looking at and I am extremely happy with it. On another note I have nothing bad to say about the Tikka. I have friends that have them and they too work well.

Great feedback, guys. Thx. Both guns are really nice, but the Sako felt the best when going back and forth shoulding both. I know the cost will be a bit more for the Sako but it’s a gun I will own for a long time. I have a new Leupold vx 3i 3.5 - 10 40mm ready to mount when I get this gun. Which rings did you get for your Sako? I was looking at the Tally light weight rings and I’m thinking the low will work with this scope.

I have one of each. My main hunting rifle is a Sako finnlight. I love that gun.

Honestly, they are both great guns. For the ranges I shoot at and the ability of this shooter I see no advantage with the Sako.

Both guns feel great and shoot great.

To me this is sort of like asking Toyota Avalon or Lexus LS 460L AWD. Both are made by the same company but if you can afford it, there isn't really much to debate here. Sako all the way!.

Both are nice rifles , I had 2 of the T3 LS but most of my rifles are Sako m75 models.

Of the 2 you mention I would choose the Sako RTP. A friend bought his new rifle 2 years ago in a Sako RTP 300wm. He loves it

I like Opti locks but they are heavy and the single screw attachment throws some people off but I have never had any issues with mine (I own a few).. Good choice on the Sako, the Tikka would have been an excellent choice as well

I run the Sako Optilock ringmounts and love them. I've had several rifles with them and never an issue.

I a not really a huge fan of the A7, I would either save the cash and buy a Tikka, or step up to a Sako 85. I will not buy the Optilocks, way overpriced, and no stronger than options costing half as much.

Tikka unless you step up to the Sako85
I don't think the A7 is worth the extra cash.
Comparing a A7 to a Sako85 is like saying that a chevy malibu is the same as a Cadillac cts

Tikka would be my choice between the 2 rifles. There are tons of options to modify the Tikkas to suit your personal preference, as well.

Another option - in regards to the Sako A7. Personally, If I was thinking of putting out that money for an A7 - I would be looking for a nice minty used
Sako 75 - which is superior to an A7.

Tikka and Sako are both price a bit high for what you get.

Tikka should be $600, sako $1100...

You can say that about most firearms, Weatherby Mark V rifles should cost half of what they do.

And bread should be 10 for a buck like the good old days too, but that isn't the issue. You can't even buy most Savages for $600.

I agree with the comments that the Sako 85 is a lot better rifle than the A 7. I too would much prefer it to the A 7.

Not talking about any old days. Comparing to savage ruger remington marlin Winchester browning tc, many more... tikka and sako prices are inflated for what you get.

Okay then. please rank the commonly available new production CF rifles in order of quality, best first.

Mine would be:
Blaser
Sauer
Cooper
Sako
Weatherby
Tikka
CZ
Kimber
Browning
Ruger 77
Savage - not Axis
Zastava
Winchester 70
Remington - non-SPS
Marlin
Rem SPS
Axis
Ruger American

Not one on this list can be had for $600 new, until you drop below Winchester.

Plastic molded mags, cnc cut pushfeed actions, plastic molded stocks. Tikka t3 is just the same as a remington 783 or ruger american and savage axis ii.

But people can buy whatever they want for however much they wanna spend. Lots of marketing assisting their decisions.

plenty of composite material in a Tikka, but the trigger, action, and barrel are far superior to the other brands you named. hard to find any other brand out there that will compete with the accuracy and price point. each to his own, happy new year to you.
