Default Doing my AHEIA PAL course tonight, one question about "donation"

So I'm doing the course tonight, and AHEIA are a non-profit so they just ask a donation to do the course. I was hoping to do $60-70, but money has just become very tight all of a sudden (anyone else hear that vacuum sound once your pay goes in?)
So I still want to do my course, because the next one isn't until September, whats the least I could pay, and it not be a dick move. I want to help this place out, as I see a lot of places overcharge (in my opinion) for an 8 hour course and an exam. I intend to do my hunter course there as well later on, so would I be less of a dick if I paid a less for my PAL course, and then paid a more appropriately generous amount for my hunters course later? To make up the karma?

Hey, give what you can. The AHEIA goal is to get as many people into the field as possible to enjoy all that's wild, so it would be a shame if folks had to miss out due to tough times. Believe it or not, because it does not always seem like it, but there is actually a fixed rate and instructors are not supposed to charge more than that. Can't recall off the top of my head, but the package and books is about $34.00, so maybe a donation covering that would be great!

Cheapest I found for my son in Calgary was $120 for an 8 hour course. If you are poor, give what you can. If you have some $$$$ I'd suggest at least the $120. Why would it be appropriate to give a good organization like AHEIA less than you would a private for-profit outfit? Do the right thing.

Because money is a little tight right now. Been there myself. $120 is outrageous, I dont even charge that in the North East!

Donations can vary greatly depending on the person or circumstance. I like to use the "sliding scale" approach. If you can afford it, give generously. If not, give what you can.

Nobody knows your situation and should never critisize you for asking.

Good luck.

I'm not "poor" I'm broke. There is a difference! And $120 is insanely high. I'd never pay that much for an 8 hour course and an exam. When I teach WHMIS I charge $40 per person, and that's a day course an exam for federal qualification too!

North east Alberta? LOL That's where the wealthiest Albertans live LOL

As I said, if things are tight, give what you can give.

Forty Seven... poor, broke, tight, whatever, my bad for the word-smithing. Sorry if it offended. Not my intent.

Note: PAL is a federal qualification too. Your WHMIS course runs 8 hours? That's pretty good value for $40. I'd pay more.

The PAL has become like every other "licensing" - an excuse for some folks to print themselves money. $120/person for a course fee is highway robbery - unless you were giving private courses to 2 people at a time.

I charge $100 for private tests/courses.

I am also a AHEIA instructor.

A donation is just that. Many people give between $75-$100. If you cannot afford that, do what you can.

When times get better for you, maybe stop by the office and donate another $20 if you have it.

Don't concern yourself. Go, learn, and enjoy the outdoors

Perfectly said! Give what you can now and when things are better you can always give a little more then. AHEIA is a wonderful organization with great people, as Huntingstuffs Post Shows. Have fun and hope things pick up for you soon.
