The ice is not ready!! Some guy is out there with a truck right now. I did a quick ride on the side x side, And I found two spots that are extremely dangerous. Be carful out there.

Continuous gas bubbles has kept it from freezing in the one picture

A buddy was out yesterday and like you, his caution level is high.
Play safe.

Natural gas bubbling to the surface.

Lots of very shallow gas in that area. It finds its way up through the rock.

I walked back out and marked this gas bubble spot so hopefully knowbody ends up in it. I wouldn’t recommend any type of atv or vehicle to travel out there as there is a wide crack with free flow water out there also that is well over a 1000m long.

When I worked in the attic, north of Inuvik, the ice would be 6 feet thick and there would be open holes due to shallow gas pockets. No one ever fell through but lots got stuck.

Are you meaning not ready for driving on or walking as well. Heading out in the morning with my kids but will be walking. Don't want to make the drive if it's not safe for us to walk out..

Most places in the lake have 10” of ice and more in other places. But some places are open. Just be carful walking is the safest bet.
