Check your local library. I'm currently using 2014 Alberta building codes book from the library for some courses.

To buy, it is $340 and you would buy it from the gov of Alberta website

For the electrical you won't need the code book. It runs around $175 and will be confusing because of the overwhelming amount of extra information. Go to Home Depot or any hardware store and grab the Electrical Code Simplified book. It's around $20 and has everything residential in an easy to interpret fashion. It's green in color and usually somewhere in the electrical aisle.

Canadian electrical code book you can get from eecol or any other electrical wholesaler for cheaper than any hardware store. It is considered a legal document which is why it may be confusing.

There have been some significant changes to the code in the 2015 edition. Better make sure the home depot book includes them....If you're getting the work inspected.
