Default 2019 bear season shortened ?

In the draw book, it shows they have shortened the fall Black Bear season by a month. (Sept 1 to Oct 31)

Does anyone know the reasoning behind this ?

We are running out of Black Bears, NOT! NDP screwing hunters as usual. Hopefully this gets changed back to end of Nov. like it was in 2017.

Good part is you can still hunt them year round on private property.

It was oct 31 last season as well... sure hope bear hunters read the regs every season so they don’t get pinched.

More black bears means the burgeoning Grizzly population has more stuff to chew on.

Still says oct 31 for all zone but 212 and 410 as of last season. Maybe they changed something else can’t wait for the new regs to come out.

the excuse was that deer baiters were claiming to be bear hunting,so rather than stop bear baiting at the end of oct they shut the season short

They shortened the seasons even in WMU's where bear baiting wasn't allowed

You well recognise this is a pure BS Excuse. Deer season opens in Sept in lots of places where u can bait bears, are they going to get rid of the whole fall Bear season?

Seeing how you can’t bait deer in Alberta this is ridiculous lol

I didn’t catch that wmu 400 joined the 404/406/408 early end spring season. That’s a terrible direction. Thanks for pointing that out.

IMO if we are hunting Deer until end of November we should be able to shoot bears till then if they are causing trouble in the camps.
Last year I did not bother to buy bear tag for this reason ..
Season ended Oct 31.
