Default Broken Fibreglass Firepit

I have a propane firepit on our deck. A foot accidentally put a hole in it. I'm looking for possible suggestions on ways to patch/fix this. Not the best quality photos, but you get the idea. Appreciate all input.

Thanks

Put a layer of slate or tile over the whole top. Just place them loose or perhaps use some silicone to affix them rather than going with mortar as the temperature changes and differences in the co-efficients of thermal expansion between materials would loosen up a mortar job.

I would go with a slate of stone product though because then any cuts / exposed edges would not have to be dressed up.

Caber has the quickest and easiest method.

Trying to repair that with fiberglass and then getting anything close to the existing finish would be tough. Laying layer after layer of matting and resin to the back side, then doing it all over on the top would be messy and dusty due to all the grinding smooth in between the layers.

Reminds me of fly in fishing with a low wing.

This is one thought I had, to just cover it all over the top. And I think I have some extra slate around the house. Thanks Caber.

If your handy with a router you could route it out square or rectangle get a piece of flooring that has the wood grain look and color thats close.glue in supports underneath so the repair is flush.
Have done similar things with table tops,i think its called a"dutch-men"

Cut it to right size and shape, inset a combo drink holder, ashtray, or take a proper size container and fill it with colored glass beads as a decorative piece.
