Default Smartcast

My son is on my butt to get a Humminbird Smartcast. Anyone out there used one or heard anything about them?....

the portable stationary unit is decent, the wrist watch model is ok as is the rod mounted unit. they are not that great at markingstuff like logs and small fish, but they are very helpfull finding depth, on calm days. ive used them to find deeper pools in rivers/streams and creeks.

Have used on for a couple of years now. Works well. I have the one that attaches to the rod. Works reliably to about 50 feet, after that the signal is not the greatest. I usually use mine from the pontoon boat, tie it to the back of the boat and keep an eye on whats happening underneath me.

I bought one for my wife for christmas for a stocking stuffer . Had it a couple years now, but have only used it a couple times, its the wrist mounted model. Seemed to work well enough, but just another one of those things that seems gimmicky to me, and seems to see its share of home time. Used it on the Red Deer River to check depth of a couple holes, and did the trick though for sure. Make sure youve got heavier type line, when i used mine, all i kept envisioning was a big ol river shark slamming it and making it extinct!!

keep a strain on er.

I too have the wrist mounted one. I use it when I'm out in my belly boat or fishing from shore to find the drop-offs.
