Some friends just got back from Maligne Lake yesterday and said they had great fishing. Also, Medicine Lake is very good for fly fishing this time of year. It actually is only a stream now and can be fished with waders at the upper end. Talbot Lake is good for pike now as well. You can get good fish at the confluence of the Maligne and Athabasca. I have caught some huge bull trout there. Just remeber to get a National Park fishing license and check the regs for closures and restrictions. Good Luck!

Just a Heads Up,

Athabasca River is now closed below Sunwapta Falls.

Mikey, me and bud fished Maligne and Medicine just last weekend. Maligne is tough, at least it was for us. The fishing was fantastic for the 1st hour in the morning and then turned off like a light switch. We fished Medicine from there on and had a great time....very tired from walking but hey, that is part of fishing imho. If you do decide on Medicine, watch for bear signs early morning...like just before sun up. Each morning we found fresh tracks out on the mud flats...one pair was definately too big for a black bear.

I have never fished the AthB in the park. It has been a disgusting cloudy mess all year until this past weekend. We noticed that has turned back to its bluish to emerald color and the water is much lower now. It will only get better from here too. If you fish it, please report back on how you did.

Default Fishing closed

So the man at On-line sports informed me that again I was too late
for fishing the Athtabasca. closed for the rest of the year except above the falls! oh well life goes on. Didn't have time to head up to medicine lake,
but He told tales of 26" rainbows caught on san juan worms!!!
I'll be back up there in a few weeks with the family so I can't wait to tie into one of those pigs. BTW did you know the wardens are on strike?

Hey Mikey.

Too bad about the AthB. Give Medicine a try. You will get your excercise but it is worth it. You will be able to visually see the deeper sections just from the road. I believe that there are some 26 inchers and bigger in there. The biggest I managed was about a 20 incher. Find the biggest San Jaun worm and fish it under an indicator.

Interesting about the COs. I saw them lots on the September long weekend. They did seem to be quite abscent last weekend. Guess that explains why.
