I don't understand how they can charge this on home heating fuel. It is a necessity in Canada's climate to live ! Don't forget about the GST ! Tax on a tax !

If there needs to be carbon tax charged it should be on airplane tickets. If you can afford a holiday add on another 50 or 100 to the tab. Leave the ordinary joe commuting back and forth to work and heating his home out of it.

You misread it ... carbon TAX, It’s just another tax , has nothing to do with reducing carbon .

It is applied just not directly on the ticket price as the airline pays the carbon tax.
Pretty simple economics tells us that higher costs push innovation to make things more efficient and cheaper. Just look at computers, they used to cost an arm and leg for a low powered machine but enterprise saw the potential and innovated to make computers better and cheaper. The government is stepping in and applying a tax because it incentives companies to innovate rather than sticking with the status quo. We have done similar things in the past with nitrous oxide to deal with acid rain, and chlorofluorocarbons (use to be used in aerosols) for the ozone. Both times people said it would destroy the economy and be too expensive and yet we found solutions and moved forward.

There's a great interview out there on a realist scientist who notes that; what we do individually is Noble but beyond that it does bfa for the environment. Whether that be installing a grease trap under the sink, composting, recycling, driving an electric/hybrid, etc. He then goes on to discuss the huge invisible mammoth in the room that nobody is allowed to address; the airline industry.
At any given moment an aircraft is either landing or taking off every 3/4 of a second.

you raise a good question " what is his end game ?" . my fear is that by the time we find out , it will be too late to do anything about it . a lot of the crap he is spewing may be " smoke screens " to hide the truth . or maybe not .

According to the Lieberal shill the other day on the news..the "logic" is to get all those oil field workers (in Alberta) to buy F150 pickup trucks instead of those nasty F350 for going back and forth to work ......Only in the mind of a Lieberal who has never worked would this make sense......
Or I guess we could use 3 trucks to haul stuff instead on one.....

You mean from previous times?
One would be miniaturizing and implementing catalytic converters on every vehicle.
Another would be the non-ozone depleting refrigerants that were developed.
As for CO2 innovations there are some currently in terms of carbon capture, but government intervention would push investment dollars into into innovation rather that maintaining the status quo.

Yep, give the government more money and they will make the weather better for us. I'm just waiting until they tell us that the winds are changing and we will have to start paying more taxes because it is less/more windy than at any other time in history.
