Electric vehicle Charging stations!
[FONT="Century Gothic"][SIZE="4"]
Hi AO GEAR HEADS
EV charging stations
on highway 5 BC
electric charging stations are in rest areas
electric Amperage PLATE shows * 80 amps at 220 volt
Well
that enough to Stick weld with 3/32 welding rod
or run a nice big hot tub
QUESTION it the charging of a telsa come with vehicle purchase?
There is two different charging plugs, seen across the highway five and okanagan hotels. (nissan leaf)
Or is there a credit card system? Would mark for interesting vehicle operational budget.

This isn't an easy post to decipher.
Are you asking if EV chargers are universal, if a charging station comes with a Tesla (which model), and if you pay at charging stations with a cc?

There are free charging stations but most fast chargers you pay. I believe a Tesla comes with some free charging miles and then you gain more if someone uses your “referral code “ and buys a car.
Charging is relatively cheap I believe.

Googl Electric vehicle charging stations Canada and it brings up a map of them all. Pay stations charge faster, free ones slow charge.
Now if a Tesla or whatever comes with a certain amount of charges? Couldn't tell you..

In blunt economic terms, tax payers are subsidizing it.

When they built the new school that my kids are attending 3 years ago they added 3 electric vehicle only parking stalls with chargers in the parking lot. This is in pickup truck driving rural Alberta. I assume there is no charge to park your electric vehicle there to charge them. I think it is such a waste of taxpayer money and I’m not sure why we should subsidize the electric car driver.

Pardon my ignorance but I have been wondering, where is all this electricity coming from? We have shortages all the time and the power can go out for days in some areas.
If everyone starts driving electric cars then there would be one hell of a drain on the grid wouldn't there? Maybe we can buy electricity from the middle east.

Honestly curious.. Aside from a limited tax writeoff for the initial purchase (that only came in the past 6 months), how are the tax payer subsidizing it? Or do you mean "electricity user subsidized"?

You can thank your (bc) gov't for the brownouts/etc.. lol..
It's pretty rare in Alberta aside from the odd storm, that we get outages.

If there is one power type that BC has in abundance it's hydro produced electricity and the only time electricity goes out in BC is when there is a weather related outage.

I hope I'm not getting TOO-off topic, but I noticed a lotta "stuff" on the forums about electric vehicles and "teslas" and whatever.
Here's my take on all of it:
Right now I have a straight-gas Corolla and I can go from Calgary all the way to Swift Current SK, in minus 30 winter weather, plus a windchill, and stay nice and warm with a good heater; at more than 100 kliks if I choose (plus passing someone).
When I can do that with a "electric car or truck" and only take 10 or so minutes to "refuel" (or "recharge") in Swift Current, and continue on my way to points East as far the same distance from Calgary to Swift Current, then I might consider a electric.
Until that day - FORGET IT!

If a provincial government or the federal government pays for the building of charging stations, that means tax payers paid for it and they absolutely should not be paying for it.
If there really is that much of a demand for it, private industry will handle it, and the users of the charging stations can pay for it themselves.

Where is the provincial or federal governments building charging stations?
The only ones I have seen have been private businesses

I think he's talking about the specific school example given above..
But that's a school board spending issue.. (who says there's no bloat.. but let's "layoff" the teachers).

I highly doubt the school board did it out of their own generosity. It was most likely part of a government grant.

The Federal Government had an initiative about 3 years ago to build a network of fast charging stations across Canada. The funding grant --- err federal taxpayer dollars was to be partnered with provincial and municipal taxpayer dollars for construction of these.
The City of Edmonton had a big push to put these in and I know several were placed at the University of Alberta.
Anytime you see grant remove the word and replace with taxpayer funded.

In other words, gas pumps are subsidizing it.

Once enough EV's are owned in Canuckistan, provincial and federal governments will add a Road and Highway Levy to every utility bill. You will be paying the levy whether you drive an EV or an ICE. You will be paying the levy to light your house and cook your food.
It will be called a Levy so they can then add the GST on top. Since it is against the law to tax a tax, they will call it a levy instead. Words are magic.
