Absolutely acceptable , however understand it only touches the very end of the barrel. If damage is deeper than that this will not work .

When i cut my crowns on the lathe i finish with a brass lap with some lapping compound id say that would be fine on minor defects worst your gonna do is not fix an already damaged crown and have to cut it properly

I find it hard to call this “recrowning”. Polishing your old crown yes. That said I have never done this, anytime I need a barrel recrowned the barrel comes off and gets a new crown. This would not straighten anything just polish an old crown. It would probably work for some old junker like what is in the video. My favourite Winchester.... nope.

I did this to a sks. is you use the proper valve lapping compound it cuts pretty good. I was able to cut the new crown about 1/8" deeper using this method. Start with a coarse lapping compound and finish with fine. Not for a benchrest rifle but good enough for something like an sks.
