If a dog wants what's on "the other side" they will cross it.

This, and they they can't get back.

If you are not going to fence til spring set up a 40 ft line between 2 poles and then run a 25 ft line of off that, should give the pooch room to stretch and will save you some trouble.

Or go bang some rough cut posts in before the frost, 1 300 ft roll of Paige wire and instant dog run, it may not be pretty but it would get you through.

We run the wire less system. We have 4 red heelers and the system works awesome. As long as we keep up with fresh batteries once a month

You can also get solar powered ones, they work the same as the ones farmers use for beef animals. Just a bit smaller, they work great, once the do touches the wire once or twice they don't usually repeat. Peavey Mart carries them

I installed the "Pet Stop" brand fence on my acreage. Our lab has the run of 3.2 acres. He does not leave. Others walk their dogs by on the road. He just stands and barks. Other dogs come in and he will play with them. When they leave, he stays. These systems work very well. Only downside is lost 2 control boxes to lightning strikes (boxes have lifetime warranty).

Default Dog Watch

We have a Dog Watch fence on our acreage. Our rottie has the run of 3.5 acres and has never gone across the buried wire. It doesn't matter what's on the other side, he won't cross.
