Nissan Xterras 2004, the good, the bad the ugly

I have an opportunity to buy an older xterra for a reasonable price.
Its a 2004, 150k.

I always liked these rigs, just curious of your thoughts before i buy it.
Pros cons all welcome

Friend of mine said he heard they are alot of trouble. But i still like em.
Please help me decide.

I have a 2002 and so far knock on wood the things is lights out and it is a great vehicle and has been really reliable. I would not hesitate on it at all.

I owned a 2004. Last year of that body style and engine. It was a great suv for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Check out which years had the coolant leaking into-transmission issues-expensive fix

Have had fuel gauge issues (covered on recall) and weak heater output. Otherwise, great truck with a strong engine and transmission.

2003 Xterra, bought it used with 52,000, now have over 325,000. Only issue I've had is at about 120,000 the timing belt went on it ($750 fix from a friend)

It's been good - needs some TLC (brakes) that will happen over the winter. Still runs strong and I've got a code reader permanently hooked up to clear a couple of minor codes (again, some TLC - damn catalytic converter) but I'll eventually cut that stupid POS out too.....

Quick fix is to bypass the rad before you have problems and just use the transmission cooler alone.

Seems the problems with coolant in tranny started in 05, i think i will bypass just to be safe if I buy. From my research it seems mechanically sound, and i think i will enjoy it. Anyone else have anything ?
