Default Elbow Falls Trip

I've been attempting to get up to speed in the use of a couple new cameras Santa delivered to the Treehouse this Christmas. A Canon T3i DSLR and a GoPro Hero 3+ Black.

The weather was perfect the other day so we decided to do a run out to McLean Creek with the machines and ride down to Elbow falls. It was a repeat of a trip we did this summer after the floods, and another good opportunity to get Mrs Tree some seat time. The difference is really amazing.

Please enjoy the pics. It was a fun day.

Tree

It looks like a good camera how are the mud holes on the trail. I hope well frozen. Last time I went in there I broke through the ice in a hugh hole and had to be towed home.

Crappy deal, Artie.

Sorry for the late reply. Got sent into the bush up Conklin way right after posting and just getting back now.

Riding was good. Main trails were open, very quiet out there too. Nice day trip for sure.

With that being said, I am once again disappointed that an effort to share actual OUTDOOR activities gets almost entirely ignored on an outdoorsmen forum. Yet a justin beiber thread will garner 3 pages or more........ ??????

We are better than that.

I hope.

Default Nice pics Tree

Its nice to see someone getting out there and enjoying it!

I've been do busy... I've got the shack nasties real bad.

-26 this morning and I'm on here! The snowshoes are calling to me from the shed.

Methinks I'll head out anyways.

Btw..... I hated Conklin. Bet it's changed a bit since 1990.

Tree,

Thanks for sharing the great picks. Elbow Falls was one of the first waterfalls I saw as a kid growing up in Calgary. My friend also had a wedding ceremony out at those falls. Great memories!

You have a good eye for pictures.

Looks like a great day at the falls, surprised at how little ice buildup there is considering it is the dead of winter.

My lady and I went out there early fall, to a spot where we hooked up years ago. Sure was different than the last time we were out there, along the river mostly. Thanks for the trip report! Keep the OUTDOORS pictures and posts coming!!!

Those are awesome pics!

After 6 years of owning a race quad (Bought a Kawi KFX 450R new in '08), I'm definitely starting to regret not buying a 4wd. I had a ton of fun on it for years, but it is definitely limited in where it can go. I did one winter ride out at Mclean on it, and it was THE most miserable riding experience I've ever had (Hard to stay warm and dry with 2wd and no fenders ).

Some day I'll sell it and buy a nice Outlander/Renegade or something, so I don't have to keep passing up on the winter rides.

What are you guys riding? (My apologies if this is common knowledge, but I'm new to the forum as of a couple of days ago)

Used to be a Huge graffiti on the cliff, south side of the Falls, when I was a kid. JESUS SAVES. Think that got cleaned up when it became K country.

Good pictures. Those cameras are working well for you. Got to agree with you on the JB comment. I just got done posting something similar on the General Forum where legit questions get one response and totally ridiculous stuff gets 200. Worse than the old talk radio where every unemployed blow hard got to phone in and spout of his well researched position on the important matters in life.

It's crazy how different it is now. Did they remove the signs? I thought that trail out to the falls was closed?

Thanks guys.

Winter riding is great. Grew out of the novelty of mud a loong time ago (mostly), and have not used a winch in several years now. Also, popular areas like McLean are far quieter in the off season. Even had a conversation with a moose 30 yards away. haha

TFG, I too was surprised by the lack of ice.

_hedge_, the trail was open, and was also open back in August when we first travelled in there. There's at least a slim chance I would not publicly post pics of me breaking any rules.

Scotty and Soulcousin, we are not riding anything special. An older Honda 400 and Polaris 800.

Here are a couple vids from the GoPro. First one was the trail run into the falls with the cam mounted on my wife's helmet. Second is of me screwing around in the staging area. I'd like to dedicate them to Duffy4.

Bessie. Conklin is great! I really do enjoy it up there despite the cold. Saw another lynx a couple days ago and a very cool series of tracks from a family group of 5-6 otters goofing off in the snow. Here's a vid for you on the ride into the rig, and a lynx pic from last year. Enjoy bud.

Tree - you B@@stard

You inspired me to re-log in to AO. These are the threads that originally made me want to join AO.

You jerk!

Now I'm going to have to post another trip report thread.

Did I say you're a jerk? I thought I was done with this place....

P.S. - I'm really enjoying Mrs. Tree's visits to the garage. I haven't had such good home cookin' in a loooong time.

Maclean is closed to bikes and trucks until May 1. Unless you have a SRD permit to be there for trail maintenance.
