Default Maqua Lake Mystery

Anybody that's familiar with Maqua Lake on Stoney Mountain. A little info was released to me that the bottom of the lake is littered with army relics from the 50's, when the US army was posted posted in the area. Would be interesting to dive it and find out first hand if the rumor is true. Wonder if they'd be in decent shape?.

Default Maqua Lake

Been hearing those stories since the mid 70's.

Not sure on the truth or not but from what I have heard was there were only 12 or so Air Force personnel on site and there were around 100 support civilians there. It was part of the Mid Canada line, the Pinetree line ran by Penhold and the DEW line far north.

Rumour also has it that they dug big pits on Stoney Mountain and buried everything including Cats and equipment.

Be interesting to know for sure.

Supposed to be similar items lost in lakes along the Alaska Highway. Built in the 40's, they left road building equipment on frozen lakes, as it was cheaper than bringing it back south after highway construction. I think Kluane Lake, maybe Muncho, were good places.

Strange lights have been spotted on the curve in highway 63 by the turn off to Stoney mountain.

As a little kid in NE B.C. my friends and I used to dig up all sorts of stuff left by the US military. It was Alaska Highway stuff.

I was taught very early in life what a blasting cap and a piece of dynamite looked like.

Back to Alberta.

I did not realize Anzac was that large of an operation. They had quite an HF set up from those pictures. I wonder if they were part of that Doppler experiment.

I also recall Beaverlodge which continued into the late 1980's

At one time there was 2000-4000 US troops in this area. Was probably the best thing that could have happened, get some new gene's into the community. There used to be a house by the Snye that had all sorts of Army memorabillia. Willies Jeeps and such, think it was Syd Mckays place. Think I'll do some poking around up in them hills this summer.

Not sure about the memorballia but yeah, Syd had lots of old iron outside thats for sure. Not sure what ever became of him after he was at the controls of that crane and Luc from L Roberts was killed......

Not sure either, but all that land was sold as commercial property. So I'm sure he was compensated fairly well. An appartment block sits on that property now.
