Default Farming is no picnic but...

The farmers wife is Chinese and her dad (who BTW is a professional chef) has shown up and is making us supper. This was delivered to my combine last nite...

Well that looks better than your typical Ploughman's lunch! What is in the tarts?

You are one lucky fella for sure. Just looking at that dish makes my mouth water. That meal would keep you working for hours. On my dad's side of family my grandma was Italian and made everything from scratch, my grandpa was a chef and well versed in Chinese cooking. Ya he was Asian. Wonder why I was 150lb at age of 13. Sure miss em

Definitely beats cooking chunky soup on the exhaust manifold.

A few handfuls of roundup infused wheat kernels from the hopper takes the hunger edge off for me.

Reminds me of a close friend of mine's Mom and the meals she made for her husband and the boys during the busy seasons. While growing up, I used to go out to the farm and help out and stay with them for a few days.

His mom would drive out to the field, set up a folding table, some chairs, had a water jug and soap and a towel for us to wash up, followed by a hot meal, home made desert for us. I was blown away at the love, care and effort she put into feeding us.

My mom is the best cook I have ever had the priviledge of eating from. During harvest the meals in the field were fantastic. What I miss the most are the home made pies. Nothing tastes better than homemade blueberry or Saskatoon pie while mom makes some rounds while you are eating!

The way it should be and I don’t mean that in a bad way! That’s her way of contributing to the harvest! Hunted a ranch a few years back and the lady of the property was in the big house baking bread and making dinner for all the hands while they were out running cows.

Looks yummy. A good meal served in the feild was always the best part of the harvest.

Now that's what I call a real meal delivery, bon appetite.

I grew up on a farm in central Saskatchewan many years ago, I never got anything like that delivered to the combine but I will say the meals we ate on the tail gate of the pickup were some of the best tasting meals ever, all fresh garden stuff and roast beef, pork or chicken, and lot's of gravy, my mom was a wonderful cook.
