Default animal mounts and the sun

just curious, if you have a mount close to a window and the sun hits it for a few hours of the day, can it cause damage to the color of the hair, or fade the antlers??????

I just got back from Ontario. My brother in law was out here in 95 and killed an elk. Since that time, the animal has been hanging in a stair well, under a sky light. My brother in law never realized how faded out the bull was, till I brought out some pictures we took at the kill. Sad fact is that sunlight is a bleaching agent on just about everything.

I think almost any room is going to have some 'glow' from the sun....if you're worried about keeping it from fading, keep it in a spot thats away from DIRECT sunlight and you should be fine....

thats about the amount of direct sunlight it gets, the glow can be brighter on some days you you get the idea with the shadows, thing is i really dont want to move it if i can help it.

You can't close the blinds for those few hours a day when the sun is coming in?

Nice Deer. All the mounts that I have, 20 years worth have very little if any fade, but they have been kept out of direct sunlight, but were in light similar to yours. You should be more than safe.

There is a duster specifically designed for mounts.....but a feather duster will do the job too.

Just use a damp cloth and go with the hair.....but I would move it.....it will fade so slowly you won't notice it but when you do....it'll be too late.

i was told by artistic taxidermy to use a damp rag and after it is clean to use hairspray and a fine comb to comb it.
