Default Pheasant report

We got down to Taber area for our second and last weekend chasing wild birds for this year. The first trip a few weeks ago was a struggle in 50k winds, birds not really out and about. This past weekend weather was sunny, no wind and plenty of birds. There was a good amount of snow and it's amazing to see the highways of bird tracks through the standing corn and bullrushes. You certainly need a decent amount of hunters and a solid plan when pushing the corn or spotting a bachelor group of roosters in the middle of a stubble field with zero cover. We probably found 50-60 wild pheasant, and several coveys of partridge, not sure why the best shooting opportunity usually is a pheasant hen. Nothing finer that walking and talking with good friends and good dogs in fine weather interspersed with crazy 5 second periods of pure excitement. Thanks to my good friend and rancher for the access and friendship. The hospitality shown to a couple of citidiots annually for the past six years by the rural community is heart warming...till next season...sk
