ours gave up the ghost today . Broke the urethane gears when pushing some thin pepperoni . Got a good 10 years out of it and hundreds o pounds of sausage . Just looking for recommendations as its time to upgrade , thks

My Lems 5 lb stuffer has steel gears. A little more money than nylon, but not much. I like it a lot.

My personal press is a 5 lber with steel gears from CTR refrigeration. Has been a good unit, but it is a 5 lber. I teach Commercial Foods at a high school and bought a 30lb Cabelas stuffer this year. It is a beautiful unit. Really, really good. Makes such a difference having that big hopper. Money doesn't grow on trees, but if you have the cash, you will be very happy with this unit. I guarantee you.

I have a vertical 14lb? I think. All steel. I wouldn't go smaller, less times I have to fill it. I forget who makes it as I threw out the box in a cleaning rampage.

Check out DNR Leather and Sausage in NE Calgary..right close to the Aerospace Museum on McKnight. Last time I was in there they had a good selection of presses, slices and more sausage making spices, mixes and stuff than you could shake a stick at.

I have a tree spade and like it. Had long time and works good but too small and want to upgrade. To many bad reviews on cabelas stuff as they strip gears like yours. I want to buy LEM big bite sausage stuffed but it's on back order. Calgary ctr has the same model for good price. Electric and 20 pounder. That's my next pick.

The new Cabelas ones are real decent. Flat bottom now and legs on the can for easy filling. I bought the 20 pound one when it was on sale. Works excellent. I also have a 5 pound one from Princess Auto with plastic gears that I broke. I ordered metal gears for it from LEM. Shipping was 3X the price of the gears.

For those who have a Tre Spade, is it vertical? and if so, why vertical and not horizontal?

I've got a Tres Spade 5lb horizontal.
Simple construction, with no gears.

Works great.

Have older Tre Spade horizontal sausage 15lbs capacity works great. Halfords in Edmonton have a good selection along with CTR , Butchers and packers.

apparently the gears can be replaced but the cost is half as much as a new one with metal gears . Going with the metal gear unit for now

I've got a 25lb LEM and love it. Load up one and press out a whole batch at once.

I also have one of the 5 lb vertical jobbies. It does the trick, but with experience I would recommend a larger model. We even stuff through the grinder (without the die) sometimes just because it's faster and easier for our workflow. I agree with everyone saying to go bigger - 15-25 lbs sounds nice. The larger models are sturdier too; hopefully you'll get a lifetime of service from your next purchase.
