Default How far north have you seen or shot gophers?

For me I've kabob them with my bow in the Cold Lake area
and seen them about 20 km north of Lac La Biche.

If look at a map, Cold lake is actually east and a bit south of lac Labiche

I heard they do not cross the Athabasca from my farmer friends in High Prairie.

I heard of a guy this one time who got into a good mess of them just north of Grande Cache !!!

Although in hindsight he did say they might have been Columbian Ground Squirrels 😳😳😳

Lived in Edson for a stint and always thought it interesting that I never saw one gopher there in the 5 years I was there with all the horse pastures I used
to come across in that country. Guess they couldn't get passed the Pembina..

I have seen none north of the Athabasca river. I've seen some around the Colinton area quite a while back now, but that's not to say they couldn't stagger into Athabasca at some point all hopped up on barley, cross the bridge and try to colonize the area south of Calling Lake.

To clarify the gophers I shot north of Athabasca are on the south east side of the river. I have heard they will not cross the river as well.

Been through the area many a times. Use to travel down from Mac to LLB, across to CL, then to Meadow Lake and back up to LaLoche for a piece of tail.

I have seen lots around Cold Lake, shot them around Athabasca but never seen them north of LLB.

I have also heard this.
I'm told there's no burrowing animals north of the athabasca.

None if you don't count Ground hogs.

I saw a Groundhog yesterday, North of Manning. Some years I see lots of them and I see them all the way into the NWTs.

Our resident RSO for our Skeet range up here is named Charles the Woodchuck - his office is under the low house and he has an extended family that lives one the range as well!
