Default 46 years of draw priority burned

We are lucky in Alberta that we have such a wide variety of species to hunt but there is no doubt that the quality opportunities are getting much tougher to draw. I am a bit of draw junkie to say they least. I have spent countless hours of research, planning and analysis. With draws coming up I don't have much to obsess about as I have finally drawn all of my 10+ priority tags. Some of these I will never draw again which is kind of sad but I admit, I was pretty lucky to turn them all into great memories and hunts that I will never forget. Plan carefully! I guess this is my inspirational pre-draw thread. This year I am only hoping for Class A Walleye LOL.

10 years for this one. We watched this buck all summer but were still very lucky to get him as several others were after him too. Great to have my son with me. Gross 80 6/8".

12 years for this one. An easy hunt from a physical perspective but one of the toughest from a mental perspective. I had high expectations as I know this deal very well. 17 days later and getting dangerously close to the end, it all worked out. Gross 365"

13 years for this one. Certainly my highest achievement in hunting. A very good opportunity in drawing the tag but the hardest thing I have done in my life. Again, very close to the end of the season. A mental and physical test for sure. 188"

11 years for this one. Not as much drama here. A bit of a lesson in patience and mistakes but a very happy ending. 52" apx 170 gross.

Approximate scores....

Do you need to be hooked up with someone that knows how to measure?

Just Awesome Chet!

Awesome group of animals harvested, congrats. Nothing better than having you're kid with you.

I had 3 and still have 2, 12 + priority draws to still fill. First one used was my outside of the base Suffield Ant elk. No monster but unique and my first elk ever. Met some great guy because of that draw too.

MD is and the T Antelope should be high enough that I have stopped the 999 process on those and am waiting a couple years for my 19 yr old son to catch up on points. Then we can at least do 1 Antelope hunt together, maybe 2 while on the same rotation. MD, Moose and Elk will all be the same years drawn from here on out so we should have some good times trying to fill tags down the road.

Your right, plan accordingly. I almost used up my T Antelope and MD with friends last season. Applied with them but 1 guy was too low on points and we didn't draw because of it. Then I checked the points my son and I had and realized we could hunt each together shortly. Glad i wasn't drawn.

Congratulations on your achievements. Seeing pictures like that inspire a young hunter like me to remember that the wait is worth every second spent out on the hunt!

Great job Chet. That is the perfect example of waiting your time, scouting before drawing and putting it all together in the end.
If some of the guys on this forum would do a little more of what you did and a lot less complaining they would see some of the same success.
Awesome Job
Now wheres the 10+ yr mulie draw kill?

Great share.

I think the points system is great , after being finally drawn, you put your hard work to the test, and obviously did your best and it paid off. Congrats.

In BC, it's a lottery period, every year, a lottery.

Example, 26 years of applying for Bison . 1 tag
28 years Rosie Elk. Zero
28 years. Bighorn . Zero
28 years. Mnt Goat. 5 tags
I'd rather this system or Saskatchewan's ....... But the GOS in BC for most species.

I have no high priority tags right now but by the time my kids are old enough to legally hunt I should have enough priority in several tags they can fight it out amongst them who will get what to youth partner with me. Because there are very few draws they will get on there own before they move out of the house.

Nice photos and experiences Chet.
