Default Alberta Darwin Awards Contestant?

https://edmontonsun.com/news/local-n...2-68137f96d550

Sherwood Park man wins contest for building dual jet engine supercar

44-year-old Ryan “Lightning” McQueen of Sherwood Park has spent 14 years building a twin afterburner jet-powered supercar. The supercar is built from scratch with two 18,000 horsepower Rolls Royce viper engines capable of going 640 km/h.

Anyone feel this somehow wont end well?

I saw this car at an airshow, static display only but it was super neat!

When I see stuff like this, I find myself thinking, "where does a guy get the time and money for this kind of stuff?"

But overall, pretty cool, and more power to him.

I know that I can hit 400 MPH in my Jetta for a lot less money though.

I mean, how much would a big trebouchet cost, anyhow?

It won’t end well, but it sure will end quickly.

Some people never took physics in school, apparently. Be interesting to know the cost of a couple of jet engines ?

36,000 horsepower on a car built with plywood and Styrofoam from instruction found on Google and You Tube? What could possibly go wrong?

Kudos to the guy...he just might do it.
Most of the lands speed record cars have been jury-rigged and handbuilt.
The Thrust 2 which held the land speed record for over 10 years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrust2 had an initial budget of 175 English pounds...about $500 back then.
It did 468mph.
We have a world now where you 'buy' your way to fame, spending exorbitant amounts of money. This guy is doing it old school...blood, sweat and tears.

Very likely the mold was made our of plywood and styrofoam, not the actual car. Lots of good info on Google and Youtube.

He might have had better luck if he had launched over water, or maybe not?

Perfect example of the Kruger Dunning effect, the less you know the more sure you are of your competence.

I am sure the Wright brothers faced the same kind of ridicule...Some people take chances, others scoff and run back into their caves....

The Wright brothers were venturing into unknown territory and proving a concept. Very different than what is happening here.

But what would good old sparkle socks wear to such an event? He would definitely be soiling himself seconds after the driver hits the button and JT would be screaming like a little girl ...... man that would be fantastic ..... lol.

Please stop insulting little girls. Vast majority are smarter and more courageous than JT
