What kind of person would call in a gun threat to the children's hospital? It's not like the kids and their families at the hospital don't have enough stress going on.

Maybe just someone wanting negative attention for guns/gunowners? Lots of screwballs these days.

You could very well be right... Global reported that a similar report happened overnight at Toronto's children's hospital over night. There are some real idiots out there these days.

That makes me sick.

The Alberta Children’s Hospital has been my favourite place to donate money for a few years now. After seeing how much the staff actually care about the kids, including my one daughter that still has to go back to see her specialist there, I can’t imagine how anyone could threaten a place like that.

I hope they catch the puke that called this in and
Lock them up.

It was announced this morning that the sick childrens in Toronto received the same call...as did the Stollery in Edmonton.
Find the person and give him about 1000 hours of community service at these hospitals...once he finishes his jail term.

Question Swatting ??

Apparently similar type calls received in Edmonton and Toronto around the same time. Perhaps some no mind was "swatting" - the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.

There was a recent "swatting" incident in the U.S. (I forget the city) where a "domestic dispute involving a firearm" was reported, and an innocent man was killed.

If this is the case, I hope the offender is located and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

As horrible as such a prank is, its better than the real thing. That being said I hope the culprit is caught and dealt with severely. The digital trails and voice recordings to 911 ought to be enough to catch even a person who is trying to mask their trail. Someone dumb/evil enough to do this generally isn't smart enough to cover their tracks very well.

I think what causes the most outrage and fear is the attack or threat of attack directed at the most innocent and vulnerable among us. With our daily dose of violence delivered by the media, I think we may be ripe for more of the same that happened at the Children' s Hospital. I also wonder if some of the sickos may be measuring response times.

People aren't at their best when their kids are sick. My wife works there and occasionally parents get's pretty verbally abusive if they've had bad past experiences or feel like the hospital has wronged them.

That's sad to hear, but I can see it being true. It's unfortunate how some people react in a stressful situation, and they tend to take out their frustrations on the wrong people.

Feels like an anti-gun indoctrination action.

Apparently its common for swat teams to shoot the owners dog as soon as they enter, this probably sounds like BS, search and you shall find, apparently someone "swatted" a mayor's place and they shot a cowering dog first thing, but there's been many cases of this, someone calls with this kind of complaint to get at someone else, knowing this is usually the result.

It's actually very easy to avoid getting caught for this. The people that have been caught, like the recent Kansas incident, are brought down because they can't help but brag about it.

Yeah it definitely smacks of swatting, or possibly an anti-gun freak/group trying to drum up some hysteria over here.

I know a few people that work at the Children's Hospital. There can be custody/abuse issues with some of the patients that present some security concerns. All it takes is one koo-koo parent to go off the rails.

This is just a beginning. The advance of the computer telephony bridging into regular phone systems allows to fairly easy program such thing, scale it up to any volume and launch automated dialing from some obscure country to anywhere on the planet.

A few months or so ago the waves of "bomb threats" were swamping Russia, running from sea to sea - big cities, small towns, multiple calls in same day and location... Probably hundreds of call in total, the whole thing lasted for a couple of weeks, I thing.
