Default Truck receiver game hoist

I am looking for a game hoist that will handle lifting a moose/elk for skinning, and fits into truck receiver.
Thanks

Unless you’re gonna get one built, I don’t know of any pre-built for those sorts of weights.

All the store bought ones are only deer rated, that I’ve seen.

If you do find one don’t be surprised if you need 2 men and a boy to lug it around, as it’s gonna be some hefty for weight.

There was a welder here who did a very HD lift kit, and I horse traded for one of them. Wow what a great design
Moose , elk, no problem. The hand crank was like you would see on a boat trailer. I think it was 2 five and 1/2 foot sections, so 11 feet of crank, but some times you could be cranking out of a low spot so you would have more...FS

Keep checking at princess auto.
They bring them in and I love mine. approx 100 bucks on sale
They newer ones are heavier and I feel clunkier too.
Just wish I had it when I got my Wainright moose.

Thanks for the reply.
Would you by chance have pictures of the hoist?
Do you still use yours?

Mine is like what FS's is describing and mine is made out of heavy 2" square steel that fits into the receiver but yet barley sticks out past a downed work surface, tailgate.
Further, I had an 16" extension made to fit inside the 2" square tubing, just in case I needed a little more height. I have gussets in every corner....No problem lifting a 5 point bull elk.

Broken down into 3 pieces it more than fits into my 6' bed.

One thing, make sure you buy a very strong hand winch i.e. 1600-1800 lbs and stick with the strap not the cable.....Personally I find the cable a PITA...

I have had this set-up for near ten years and I have no idea how I did without it.... Actually I do, but I love it.

Good luck

I saw that one (sort of a deer size) . There was one similar years ago and that was the one I used as a rough plan for mine.

Mine is all beefed up and that 2" steel tubing puts it over the top. Yes it is heavy, but what a tank.....and it will never bend.....

IMHO, find a guy to weld you one, in hind-sight, you will be glad you did.

Good luck,

I am a journeyman welder, if anyone reading this thread wants one made up feel free to contact me. Steel prices are high though, I would not be surprised to pay 50-80$ just in material alone, so bear that in mind.
