tikka - Don't sweat the disadvantage of your 204 too much, this is simply a challenge, not a competition. After all, from bullet center to outside edge there is only a .052" difference between the 30 and 20 cal ... and no one is looking at the size of the tacks. Just have some fun.

Oh yea i know i like the the challenge. just recently i have aquired rifles with the possibility of shooting minute of thumbtack and so now all i have to do is improve my own marksmanship and precision reloading.

I have wanted to do one of the challenges for a long time ... and today is the day. I failed but figured I would post anyway just to say thanks. It was a lot of fun. I actually left work early today just to do the challenge.

First attempt 0 for 3

Settled down a bit and second attempt 2 for 3 (not sure how repeatable that will be...)

Darren - good on you for giving this a go ... and for a 308, the recoil makes driving tacks a bit trickier. I was going to try some of the plastic tacks, but damn they looked small

Made two attempts today with the same savage 223, using a 60g v-max.
I adjusted ½ inch up for the second attempt.

Good go there purg ... some days we just shoot better than others. The one reality that seems to be emerging with this tack shooting, is that it is ... well ... a challenge.

Darren .. That whole package has tack driver written all over it. With an 8 twist barrel, those hard-to-get Sierras should do the job. Save some Varget or RE 15 to push them.

Yes sir it is an 8 twist. No RE 15 but I have plenty of Varget
The limiting factor as always will be ...... ME!

i'm very very very displeased with how i did on the third shot. that was me i even noticed i screwed up before i looked. this was my first attempt and i'll get it the second time. windy as heck today too

as a side note with 1/4 moa clicks the concept of "holding for center" was weird

fish ... 1/4 MOA clicks can be tough to zero on tacks. Gophers and game are pretty forgiving, but tacks...not so much. Driving tacks ain't easy, if it was, everybody would be doing it!

BUT EVERYBODY OWNS A TACK DRIVER!!

I like you calling them out on this.

If I get off my ass and get out shooting rifles I'll try. I know the likelyhood of being successful is very low.

Been shooting "too much" pistol lately. Rifle becoming jealous.

I've been wanting to give this a whirl this weekend. But the weather isn't very nice. However, my wife is going to town for errands. This will give us time to find some JUMBO tacks.

May the wind be your friend.
Wedneaday nite a dinner i brought your challenge to our dinner table 260. My 14 year old son bragged it up how his 243 could do this all day long. Lol! SO..... This morning we are off to Wholesale sports and Cabelas for the second time this week to buy more ammo. Thanks 260 you have made us all laff in the last few days and hopefully my son becomes a better shooter before he wares his gun out.

Not sure the "jumbo" tacks would be very cost efficient ... the regular sized ones seem to last a lot longer. Hopefully, the weather will turn around by Monday.

"yes dear" brought me back a box of gold coloured thumb tacks. The old style ones, not the ones with the plastic head which I think are called "push pins". I'll likely have to colour these with her red nail polish. Either way, it's still raining, so maybe tomorrow.

I got a few of the gold flat tacks. They look pretty small.... Gonna try my hand at it tomorrow while fireforming brass.

All of my rifles, ammunition, and range gear are packed up for my move South, but once I relocate, I will give it a try.

Oh, you are moving south elk, where to if I may ask? Anyhow tommorow's weather prediction looks promising. With thumbtacks on hand, I'd like to give this a try.

What kind of load are you running to kill those tacks. I'm using 41.5 gr of H4895 with 168 gr amax that always floats around 1 moa off bags. Haven't tried the bench rest yet for my 10FP. I'd to get under moa if I could but willing to try something new.

We are moving into our house in Camrose, and then we will be looking for an acreage in the Beaumont/Sherwood Park area. I will be glad when we are in our acreage, and I can get my gun/loading room set up permanently. In the meantime, I will only unpack what I need to use while we are in Camrose.

I hope to get a 308 Win after some tacks later this week. Unfortunately all my Range days seem to be "work" lately.
Rdamours - I generally get decent performance using 44.0 gr of Varget (and recently with H4166) behind either 155 or 168 Berger VLD's.

Wanted to try this today but lacked the stationary supplies.
So tried it with what I had. An old Remington bdl 223 rem shooting factory Fiocchi 40gr vmax.
Thanks for a challenge, it was fun.

Nice shooting deer hunter ..consistent enough to be a tack driver. Give her another try with a bit of wind from the left

44 grains of varget with Hornady 178 grain BTHP match. It's just under moa for me (.694 best .8 average) which is about as good as I can shoot. I don't have my note book with me but I believe it is right around 2,700 FPS (10 shot average).

Thanks
