Default 6.5 Grendel loads and experiences needed

Due to an error at my barrel manufacturer on my latest build I am now looking at a 6.5 Grendel 20” barrel instead of a .223 Wylde barrel. So what is a good weight of bullet to hand load for this caliber how is it’s terminal performance on game? Any actual experience not theory or I don’t like it cause it’s not “x”caliber opinion based information would be great.

Stinkycoyote now is your time to shine.

I've had one for a year now, and worked up 2 different hunting loads. I took it out last fall but unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to test either out

Hornady 123gr SST
Lapua Brass
28.0gr XBR 8208
Federal AR Match primers
2.26 COAL

and

Sierra 130gr Gamechanger
Lapua Brass
26.7gr AR COMP
Federal AR Match primers
2.26 COAL

I dont' have my velocity numbers in front of me, but the expansion threshold for both projectiles is 1800fps. BC's for both are quite similar, better velocity out of SST's, but I got better accuracy out of the Gamechangers fwiw.

Stinky would be your go to guy for info on this

I think it’s low on the FPS meter for hunting
But that’s just me

I have a dynamite load made up for the new 156gr Berger’s
Can’t wait to try those

Wink Error? More like a complete brain fart.

I read somewhere that they were having issues with the COAL when loading heavy for caliber bullets in the Grendel. But, maybe that was just the USMC experimenting with new loads.

Stinkycoyote should have some great recipes worked up for the Grendel. Provided he is still willing to share after the ribbing he endured.
